Who would have thought that British style could mean unpredictable pairings? This season, Daniel Lee’s latest display of familiarity comes to life in creative attire, putting aside the clean and reserved for adventure that is still undeniably tied to the house.
Classic Burberry elements like the trench coat and the notorious plaid print are dribbled onto fresh and invigorated pieces meant to be worn with the intention of functionality and exploration. The outdoors can be recognized in outerwear such as capes, parkas, and fitted jackets ideal for a walk with Mother Nature or for a delightful rainy night out in London.
A spectacular aspect of the collection is that it somehow brings up nostalgic characteristics: the capri pants, sequined embellishments, and cropped silhouettes. While the 2010s have been a central theme on and off recent runway presentations, the early aughts continually find a way to make a guest star appearance.
Deconstructed silhouettes are harmonized with refinement, and fabrics like silk poplin and linen complete tops and outerwear to add an airy sentiment. Staple trousers are designed for a relaxed fit and decorated with buttons on the ankles. Cargo pants are comfy and practical, juxtaposed with full-length skirts in vibrant hues.
Elsewhere, silk organza faux feathers are trimmed onto shoulders. The collection’s dresses are hand-stitched and styled with billowing coats and coated in lustrous metallic tones. Menswear classics like the Polo shirt are layered under fitted leather jackets, and checked sets create the perfect airport ensemble.
Accessories close out the looks with outdoorsy clogs, and men’s penny loafers to keep things in line with house codes. Delightful open-toe mules and the Twine heel are worn with grace down the National Theatre, the show’s venue space for the season. Handbags are revived with country features Burberry Check in grainy leather, while the B Clip is in tumbled leather, suede, and patchwork check leather. The color palette is kaleidoscopic, with shades of palma, green, carrot, bellflower, lilac, and essential neutrals of whittle, eccle, terracotta, and skylark.
Under Daniel Lee’s watchful and creative eye, Burberry thus far is nothing short of euphoria, casually serving us a unique offering of pieces that will endure, an emotion synchronized with the house.
