Chanel’s Fall-Winter 2021/2022 Haute Couture show took place on Tuesday in a theatrical spectacle. Straight from the stylish 16th arrondissement in Paris, the collection was featured against the backdrop of the Palais Galliera, the City of Paris Fashion Museum. Movements of French painting drove the materials and styles, with bright pops of color intended to offset the greyness of winter. Each piece was an artwork, with lines like brushstrokes and sparkly embellishments to give life to the garments.
The makeup, too, was an art.
But first, every good makeup look must start with a healthy canvas. The makeup artists at Chanel prepped the skin by using the intensely hydrating and illuminating Hydra Beauty Micro-Sérum and Hydra Beauty Camellia Water Cream. As a final touch, the Sublimage La Brume facial facial mist was used to give skin a plump and smooth appearance.
Then came the fun part. Bold eyes and harsh contour gave the looks in this show a certain edge and modernity.
Using the Stylo Yeux Waterproof in Noir Intense and Bleu Métal to achieve the classic wing with a pop of color on the lower lash-line, this long-lasting eyeliner mimicked the intention behind the pieces in the collection. The simple, monochromatic shadow was created with the Les 4 Ombres 378 in Douceur et Sérénité, giving the eyelid a soft, pinkish hue.
The harsh contour was created using the Joues Contraste powder blush in Ombre, a part of the Tone-on-Tone Fall 2021 Collection. This look was layered over the Poudre Cambon, from the same collection, as well as Les Beiges Tent Belle Mine hydrating and long-wearing foundation.
The look was finished off with a classic lip, using the Rouge Coco Bloom in one of their new colors, Chance. The slightly muted reddish hue has a glossy finish, giving the appearance of plump and hydrated lips.
