A Wonderfully Weird Sneaker Is Taking Over Fashion Month (Vogue UK)

We don’t know about you, but we could spend hours and hours gawking at street-style photos during fashion month. Starting in New York, photographer Phil Oh has been documenting all the impossibly stylish outfits that guests have been wearing to the spring/summer 2024 shows for Vogue – with one particular shoe uniting the fashion crowd on both sides of the Atlantic.

The hottest kicks of the season thus far are Martine Rose’s collaboration sneakers with Nike. The Shox MR4 were released in July last year, and the hybrid style combines the look of a football boot with a dress shoe. It features a mule construction for easy wear, as well as a cushioned, springy Shox heel. Designed in bold colours like neon green and orange or blue and bright purple, they’re certainly a sneaker that’s meant to be noticed – so it’s no wonder that style peacocks have instantly gotten on board.

In New York, street-style stars sported the unlikely shoes in a variety of ways. One stylish guest paired them with a tie-dye shirt and baggy shorts; another dressed them up with a green tulle dress. In London, meanwhile, one attendee paired them with a blazer and jeans, giving them a nonchalant attitude. Despite their boldness, they’re a shoe that, somehow, can work with any outfit. Vogue’s Chioma Nnadi owns a pair and agrees on how versatile they are. “I like that they give you a heel in a sneaker – a little elevation,” Nnadi says. “They don’t cut you off at the ankle. Sneakers tend to look a bit frumpy with a skirt or dress, but these lengthen your legs.”

The question is: will we see the kicks maintain their popularity in Milan and Paris? If we do, they’re bound to become even more of a cult classic. You may want to start perusing some secondhand or resale stores for them. (The sad news? They’re sold out on most major retailers, though a few still have them in stock.) Ready, set, shop!
