In her most recent Instagram post, Megan Fox proved her fashion chops–and sense of humor. She posted a highly manicured image of herself strutting down an empty driveway, most likely somewhere in balmy Los Angeles, wearing a melange of strappy and skin-revealing clothing. The Knwls ensemble, styled by Maeve Reilly, consisted of a bold printed corset top that had sleeves seemingly connected around the neck like a halter top, along with matching pants that showed off her navel. In her caption, Fox wrote, “Everybody’s grandma had that one sofa…swipe.” The last slide showed a print sofa reminiscent of, yes, her look. Megan’s got jokes!
But Fox’s latest look is a bit more fashion-minded than her sexy red carpet style. Knwls isn’t an underground brand, but it is a segue into IYKYK, fashion girl territory. Some of the London label’s lovers include Bella Hadid and Kim Kardashian. Fox’s most recent post reminds me of the time when the aforementioned Kardashian strutted out to get snacks at a gas station back in 2017 while wearing an Eckhaus Latta skirt. This wasn’t the label’s most well-known piece of clothing–simple, dark green, with an oval cutout on the waist–and it could have easily been mistaken for another designer, but it resonated with people who did know what it was. Her sister Kourtney’s choice to wear JNCO-style jeans by Vaquera in 2019 provoked a similar reaction.
Fox has been infusing lesser-known labels into her wardrobe since late last year. In December, she opted for a saucy red cardigan and skirt courtesy of Jacquemus, and in January, she opted for a curve-skimming Dion Lee set. With that Robert Aeiner suit she wore back in late February, which she described as “business casual Bratz doll,” she carried an orange bow-shaped cellulose handbag by the perverse-chic label Forbitches by Gio Forbice. (Dua Lipa, who has a long history of wearing stellar, oddball designs, is a fan of the brand).
Fox doesn’t take her fashion metamorphosis completely seriously, at least according to her Instagram captions, which is great. Back in September, she captioned a photo of herself wearing a lace-trimmed bra top, miniskirt, cuissardes, and a long black coat with, “Guys I had a business meeting today. I made sure to wear something subtle and professional.” In late August, she opted for a highlighter green bodysuit with an under-breast-revealing cut-out and a baggy denim jacket and pants. “This is how I go to Erewhon now. Let’s talk about it.” Being less serious means being more open to risks. And if anyone knows that, it’s Fox.
