VALENTINO DOES IT AGAIN: BOLD COLORS, SPARKLES, AND CUTOUTS IN SS22 (V Magazine)

u

Valentino came in hot to Paris Fashion Week with their Spring-Summer 2022 collection that premiered in Le Carreau de Temple yesterday: sparkles, bright colors, ruffles, you name it. A series of mostly women’s and some men’s streetwear and formalwear, Valentino didn’t shy away from colorful, but timeless pieces – perhaps they were a tribute to 70s Valentino designs.

When the show started, the first garments to debut were mostly neutrals, like the white jacket over a white bandeau bra and bottoms, and the sheer white shirt with different designed stripes with a mini skirt and sandals with straps reaching all the way up the calves. There was also a classy blazer, blouse, and trouser look, all in white, which was stunning.

Dipping into colors, the next series of outfits were bright, like the yellow minidress with black ankle boots, the bright purple men’s blazer over a white blouse with faded maroon shorts, and the bright green floor-length coat over a brown blouse and the same maroon shorts, with the matching sandals. Other stunning looks included the brown and gold metallic coat that seemed almost cape-like, draped over a brown dress, the floor-length nude and brown-striped blazer over a black bandeau and black shorts, and the bright purple men’s jacket over shorts to match, without a shirt underneath.

Getting into patterns, there were several stunning looks, like the men’s brown collared shirt with black and white flowers, also made into a shirt-dress for women, a black floor-length open coat with the same pattern, the yellow, black, and white floral shirt-dress, and the maroon floor-length open coat with white designs.

To finish, Valentino pulled out all of the stops, which, in this case, mostly meant sparkly dresses. Some of the best looks included the tight sparkly magenta-purple dress with floral designs, the violet V-neck dress with cape-like sleeves, the sheer, ethereal yellow dress with floral designs, the red floor-length dress with a tasteful cutout and spaghetti straps, and the yellowy-green multi-layered dress with one sleeve and one spaghetti strap.

One recurring theme about Valentino’s SS22 collection? Clearly florals, but additionally, every single look was wearable, which isn’t always the case for every designer. However, every garment was still a statement piece and would definitely catch an eye. Bravo, Valentino!

ICYMI, catch up on all every single look below.
