Over here at Vogue, many of us take humble pleasure upon hearing something along the lines of: “I love your jacket! Where did you get it?” It’s a question we’re, of course, flattered by, but also even more thrilled to respond to! Supporting young designers or shedding light on hard-to-find wares is what we do.
The theme recently surfaced as a trending topic of conversation on TikTok by @hannah_ledesma_, when she prompted users to “stitch” the products that get them compliments when they go out. “Share your secrets, ladies!” read her caption.
Not one to ever miss out on a trend (in most cases, she makes them), actress, singer, entrepreneur, and all-around cool girl Rihanna tweeted a minute-long video montage featuring the many times her signature scent was lauded and praised. It featured cameos from Lil Nas X, Jennifer Lawrence, and more, who all waxed poetic on Rihanna’s irresistible aroma: “She smells like heaven!” many of them quipped. Needless to say the fashion designer sealed the deal as the queen of fragrance. It’s no wonder her new Fenty fragrance sold out in a matter of hours.
Inspired, I virtually went around our office and asked Vogue editors to share which items consistently garner them the most praise. For Senior Fashion News Editor Steff Yotka, her signature kaleidoscope skirts by Chopova Lowena earned her a mid-dinner compliment. For Features and Commerce Editor Lilah Ramzi, her Grace Box Bag from Mark Cross keeps the fashion flattery rolling in.
All these and more items earned our editors the most glowing of reviews.

You know it’s good when strangers stop you on the street to ask what perfume you’re wearing. And since I started wearing Yves Saint Laurent’s Libre perfume, I’ve felt like a total fragrance celebrity.

I talk about my Chopova Lowena skirts a lot, but they warrant it! The carabiner-clipped skirts are so dramatic that I am routinely stopped by strangers on the street who ask where I get them. A man once joined my outdoor dining table to ask where he could get one for his daughter! Walking around in 10 meters of taffeta is practically a beacon to talk to me. It’s been a nice form of connection during these weird, disconnected times.

My K Kane gold chain letter necklace is one of my favorite pieces of jewelry, and it probably gets the most compliments out of anything I wear! It’s such a unique take on the nameplate necklace, and the chain is so strong that it miraculously has not broken after wearing it every day for the last two years. I am also obsessed with all things Monbouquette. Anytime I wear the brand’s gold and pearl Sarah necklace—which is quite often—people marvel at the delicate pearls and eye-catching gold elements. Jenny and Lily Monbouquette, the lovely ladies behind the brand, put so much thought into all their pieces and are truly some of the most wonderful women I know!

I get the most compliments on my Grace Box Bag from Mark Cross. I coveted this bag for years (I fell hard for it after learning of its Grace Kelly link in The Rear Window), and two years ago I finally splurged. It’s about as classic as a handbag can get, and my most favorite part is the bright red leather interiors. It’s the epitome of chic!

These Ancient Greek x HVN Sandals are more than just a gorgeous and comfortable summer shoe. With the number of people who have approached me to find out where they are from, they’ve done wonders for my reintroduction to society post quarantine!

I took this crochet hair scarf to Rincon earlier this summer, and despite its small size, it made a big impact–in person and (where else) on Instagram. It’s one of the only items that will take up no room in your suitcase and still have the power to transform everything you’ve packed into a more put-together look. Plus it was quite the charming accessory for a day out on a Catamaran. I swear this wasn’t planned! It really is nothing but net.

I’ve been wearing this Caudalie perfume (and only this Caudalie perfume) for years, and I’ve had everyone from cab drivers to coworkers ask me what it is.

I upgraded my shabby reusable tote with this spacious leather bag, and ever since, I’ve been getting non-stop compliments. I love it because it’s roomy enough to fit my laptop, water bottle, and an extra pair of shoes. It has a sleek, minimal silhouette that goes with every outfit, but the unique gold bar closure really catches people’s eye.

I have never found my hands to be particularly pretty, so finding the right ring has always been a bit of a struggle, as much as I love jewelry. Strangely enough, though, it’s the pinky ring I wear religiously that gets me the most compliments. Two jewelry designer friends who run the label En Studio made it custom for me with a pale blue Chalcedony crystal as the centerpiece. It’s chunky and has a nice heft to it, so doesn’t feel too precious but is still totally special.

I’m a big believer in investing in timeless yet distinctive jewelry you can wear every day. Whether I’m in jeans or a cocktail dress, I’m usually wearing the same things: my Foundrae medallion necklace, Lizzie Fortunato charm earrings, a handful of rings, and five tiny bracelets I never take off (a few are welded on, so I actually can’t). They’re pieces that go with everything but are also unique enough to garner a lot of questions and compliments—and make me feel dressed even in the simplest outfits.

Before the world changed, I was invited to a Chanel opening party that Abby Dunn hosted for the Chicago Oak Street location (with like, marble walls) followed by a dinner at Le Colonial. Azeeza’s flagship is walking distance, so we got ready there, and I pulled on this babydoll she’d just produced that I still call “Angel BB.” Every time someone would complement it, I’d be like, “She designed it!” (pointing proudly) on this Romy and Michele hype girl luxury tour. Legend has it she saw orders coming in the next day. It’s classic in that heavenly way—I’ll always love a minidress cut with some room to roammmmm.

My friend Elias Jade Not Afraid is an amazing beadwork artist. He gifted me this cuff, and it’s one of my most prized possessions. Whenever I wear it, people will literally stop me on the street to admire it. It glimmers in the sun!

I found this little no-name necklace at an antique store shopping with my grandma when I was little. Without saying a word, she waved the cashier over when she saw I couldn’t take my eyes off the teeny little envelope. It’s such a sweet memory of her and one I get revisit time and time again when people ask about it. There’s a little gold note inside with the words “All my love.” Something tells me it was meant to be.

I love vintage fashion, and my favorite finds are mid-late 90’s accessories. The item that always gets me the most compliments are my Chanel tinted sunglasses. Admittedly, they don’t protect my eyes from the sun very much, but that doesn’t stop me from wearing them all summer.

I’ve long admired GmBh, the Berlin-based brand known for its androgynous clubwear. This summer, when I purchased a pair of wide-leg cerulean vinyl pants, I feared I’d rarely wear them. I experienced the opposite problem. I’ve worn them everywhere, from the Sustainability Style Awards (pictured above with my dazzling colleague, Jasmine Contomichalos) to the launch of 4AM Skin to an intimate dinner at Sona (where they perfectly match the bathrooms!). The trousers have received many compliments, a few raised brows, and countless inquiries into their breathability.
