To honor a renewed sense of optimism regarding the state of the world, Versace is launching a resort collection for the 2022 season. The collection is meant to restore optimism, playing with psychedelic patterns and vibrant colors.
“I think there’s a renewed sense of optimism right now and I wanted this collection to speak to that,” Donatella Versace said, in regards to the new collection. “This season is about having fun with fashion again and it feels right to put something positive into the world. We will never return to the old world or to the old “normal”, there’s no going backward. This is what the new now looks like to me.”
The psychedelic patterns in the collection were named Medusa Music, appearing in pasted and acid tones, with the words: “Love. Versace. Medusa.” in a skewed, bubble font. This collection feels like a rebirth of the 1967 “Summer of Love”, tying the carefree nature of the era into today’s fashion and re-opening world.
The looks from this new collection are intended to appear distorted — perhaps hinting as an emergence from the distorted world humanity has been living in — with funky prints, fresh accessories and the inclusion of an evolved La Greca Signature, Versace’s monogram, which was introduced on the Fall/Winter 2021 runway.
The collection also features more silhouettes of the La Medusa handbag, with tweed finishing and embedded chain, and introduces a new women’s footwear line, with chunky, pastel loafers.
Versace’s new collection is timeless, cross-blending old eras of fashion with the new. It embraces the nostalgia of the past, while encouraging fashion to move forward, new optimism for a new age.
