Tonight in Milan, Versace brought a fantasy underwater dreamspace to life for its spring 2021 show. Described as a “utopian settlement on the seabed ruled by Medusa,” there was aquatic blue lighting, sculptural sand relics, and a parade of bright, print-splashed, and crystal starfish-encrusted clothes.

Speaking to the season’s underwater theme—quite literally—was the sea of soaked strands. From Joan Smalls’ raven lengths to Mica Arganaraz’s shaggy brown curls, many of the models had their hair intricately shellacked along the forehead and down either side of the neck; sometimes with a set of barrettes and ends tucked underneath a chunky necklace to luxe, layered effect.
