Loungewear as everyday wear may be having a moment right now, but in Malibu (where you’ll often see people in hoodies, sweatpants, and Uggs) comfort-first style has long been the accepted dress code. Small wonder then that the perfect lockdown-era legging should come courtesy of model and Malibu native Kaia Gerber in collaboration with Bleusalt, a line of luxe, locally-produced loungewear.

Launched in 2017 by photographer-turned-designer Lyndie Benson, Bleusalt’s beach-friendly pieces are all made from a super-soft, sustainable, breathable, and machine washable fiber derived from beechwood tree pulp, and the line is already a firm favorite among locals like Jennifer Meyer, Patrick Dempsey (who designed a six-piece men’s capsule collection for the brand in 2018), Pierce Brosnan and Minnie Driver. The Gerber-Crawford clan also have a creative history with the brand — Kaia’s supermodel mom had Benson create The Cindy Pant for her, a flared palazzo number that has since become a staple in the collection. So naturally, a next-gen collaboration was sure to happen.

“During lockdown Kaia told me she had been living in our high-waisted legging but she wanted something more fitted with a bell bottom, ” says Benson of the collaboration. She made a sample for Gerber to wear, which in turn led to requests for the pant from her quarantine crew (think Margaret Qualley, Cara Delevigne and Ashley Benson), and now The Kaia Pant will join the permanent collection. “I was so excited when our long-time family friend, Lyndie, approached me with the idea of The Kaia Pant,” says Gerber of the design, which launches today. “Bleusalt encompasses effortless sustainable style.”

Designed to be worn with a cami, bralette or cropped crew — all staples in Gerber’s style playbook — The Kaia Pant ‘“will take you from the beach to dinner at Nobu” says Benson. “Kaia is a fashion icon in her own right and these reflect her fresh and fun, yet sophisticated, sense of style.” Bleusalt will also be donating 20% of sales of the pant to A Sense of Home, an organization that strives to prevent homelessness by creating the first-ever homes for youth aging out of foster care with donated furniture and home goods. “A Sense Of Home is an organization very near and dear to my heart,” says Gerber. “It made this design even more meaningful to me.”
