Armed with millions of followers, many top models today are often harnessing their platform for good and to spread resources and information that touch on more pressing global issues. (Alongside photos of them modeling, of course). Kaia Gerber and Cara Delevingne took their activism offline yesterday and attended a Black Lives Matter protest in Los Angeles together.

The two friends attended a Black Lives Matter protest outside of the Hall of Justice in Los Angeles, California. The gathering saw protestors unite to condemn Los Angeles County’s unwillingness to prosecute police brutality. Delevingne and Gerber were seen sharing an embrace in the crowd. Later on, they met up with friend and actor Margaret Qualley, who was also at the protest.

Delevingne has been vocal about the BLM movement on her Instagram page. She has attended and posted from several protests over these past few months. Recently, she also took part in #PassThePlatform, where she lent her page to a 21-year-old Afro-Indigenous activist named Eva Maria Lewis, who educated her followers on the protests occuring in Chicago.

Gerber, too, has begun being more outspoken about political and social issues on her page. “When you have a big platform, it seems irresponsible not to use it for good,” she told Vogue of being more involved back in March. “With all the information that’s out there, we can’t claim ignorance anymore.” On her page, Gerber has been spreading petitions and reading resources supporting the BLM movement. (She has a book club.)

Delevingne and Gerber are not the only supermodels using their influence for good, either. Last month, Joan Smalls announced that she is donating 50% of her 2020 proceeds to BLM, while touching on how the modeling industry itself needs to change when it comes to racism and exploitation. “As models, we have this incredible platform where we can create awareness,” she told Vogue. “I thought if I’m going to use it, I should do so with purpose and [focus] on giving back.”
