This NYC Store Can Repair, Customize, or Upcycle Anything—Even Your Ex’s Sweater (VOGUE)

Stepping into Eva Joan is akin to going inside an upcycling jewelry box. To the left of the door sits a rack full of acid wash jeans, floral frocks, paper-thin nightdresses, and antique quilts, piled high to the ceiling. To the right, trays of ribbons, bowls of buttons, and a cadre of pins and embellishment. Everything is on display with one goal in mind: to transform any garment in any way. No project is too big, and it’s enough to change how you think about alterations entirely. Bjorn Eva Park, 28, and Emma Villeneuve, 29, opened up Eva Joan in a half address at 22 8th Avenue next to Casa Magazines in the West Village in June 2021. Filled to the brim with vintage fabrics,...

Popcorn Tops Are Poised for a Major Comeback (VOGUE)

Browsing through the spring 2022 collections, I lingered on the new, very cool Marine Serre look book. The clothes were elevated, funky, and as French as ever, and the models stood in colorful tops in front of posh, old-timey wallpaper. But there’s something odd about these shirts. They’re popcorn tops, a stretchy, polyester-leaning style in which the fabric is puckered like tiny, squished pyramids. Ah, the fabric of my youth! Marine Serre spring 2022Photo: Courtesy of Marine Serre Marine Serre spring 2022Photo: Courtesy of Marine Serre These expandable shirts were at every mall and dollar store in the early 2000s. Shrunken pieces of cloth that could be squashed into an itty-bitty ball, they could fit a multitude of body types thanks to their considerable...

SQUID GAME IS 2021’S TOP HALLOWEEN COSTUME — HERE’S 7 IDEAS TO SHOP NOW (NYLON)

There’s no denying that Squid Game is Netflix’s most popular series of all time. Reigning from South Korea, the hit show explores the concepts of how poverty leads to acts of desperation, and, eventually, the brutal game of death. Within a span of four days since its release date on Sept. 17, Squid Game became the most popular Korean production of all time, and the first Korean show to rate #1 in America. Now, it’s taking over our Halloween costume planning, too. With “Spooky Szn” right around the corner, you might be looking to recreate some looks from the hit TV show. I mean, nothing screams horror quite like 456 individuals fighting to their deaths just to win 45 million dollars. (Eeeek, capitalism, am I right?)...

VALENTINO DOES IT AGAIN: BOLD COLORS, SPARKLES, AND CUTOUTS IN SS22 (V Magazine)

Valentino came in hot to Paris Fashion Week with their Spring-Summer 2022 collection that premiered in Le Carreau de Temple yesterday: sparkles, bright colors, ruffles, you name it. A series of mostly women’s and some men’s streetwear and formalwear, Valentino didn’t shy away from colorful, but timeless pieces – perhaps they were a tribute to 70s Valentino designs. When the show started, the first garments to debut were mostly neutrals, like the white jacket over a white bandeau bra and bottoms, and the sheer white shirt with different designed stripes with a mini skirt and sandals with straps reaching all the way up the calves. There was also a classy blazer, blouse, and trouser look, all in white, which was stunning. Dipping into colors, the next series...

THE GENIUS OF DESIGN AT LOEWE SPRING/SUMMER 2022 (V Magazine)

If fashion is wearable art, then Jonathan Anderson’s spring/summer 2022 collection for Loewe has just birthed a new Renaissance. Streamed live from Paris, the much-awaited show—Anderson himself has been teasing it on Instagram in recent weeks, posting detail shots of high-heeled shoes with egg yolks, roses or nail polish bottles at the end of each heel, giving the surreal appearance of being crushed—tethers the cool, funky and playful side of Loewe with the unadulterated craftsmanship and experimentation of Anderson, a perfect duo for contemporary exploration. Basics are restructured, built upon, made from something simple into something extraordinary.
