Raf Simons Takes the Reins for Debut Prada Menswear Collection (HYPEBEAST)

https___hypebeast.com_image_2021_01_prada-fall-winter-2021-menswear-001
Raf Simons and Miuccia Prada’s first joint menswear collection has finally been revealed. Nearing a year since the Belgian designer was first announced as Prada’s co-creative director, the pair today debuted their Fall/Winter 2021 collection with a short film, followed by another post-show Q&A, live from the house’s Milan headquarters. Entitled “Possible Feelings”, the live-streamed show featured furry textured walls and carpets which were accompanied by a plethora of dynamic models sporting mod-esque slim-fit suits, striking haircuts and an abundance of Raf Simons-inspired looks. If the pair’s first joint womenswear collection was said to demonstrate a fine balance between classic Prada and distinctive Raf, this first menswear offering is almost certainly more Raf-orientated. The epochal Prada logo that adorned much of last season’s women’s collection has been portrayed in the form of...

Here’s Everything You Need To Know About Hair Steaming (ELLE)

imaxtree-annakiki-bbt-s20-009-1605200638
If you have a curly or coily hair texture, you probably know that the best way to keep your hair moisturized is with a good 'ol deep conditioner and plastic cap combo. I've been using the old school technique since the age of 10. (Thank you, mom!) But, I'm here to tell you that there's another (and possibly better) way to hack your deep conditioning session and to enhance the moisture of your hair. Please welcome steaming treatments to the party. To find out more about hair steaming's benefits and what makes it so great for your strands and scalp, I talked to a trichologist and colorist, Bridgette Hill. Below, Hill answers all my hair steaming questions and offers a few steamers and products...

Upcycling Brand Nereja Makes Vintage Furs New Again (VOGUE)

Capture
As temperatures grew colder in Moscow this past November, Vogue Russia’s executive fashion director Sveta Vashenyak began her hunt for a fur jacket. Vashenyak had been searching for an already worn fur coat, but each vintage coat had something stylistically wrong with it. “They all had these huge sleeves and big shoulders,” she says over Zoom. “And in Russia, we have these huge buttons.” Eventually, she found a long, light brown mink coat from a vintage fur specialty store outside of Moscow. She brought it to the tailor and had it altered. Gone was the “ugly collar and huge shoulders,” and then what was once considered a babushka coat now looked like something more from The Row. After receiving compliments from friends,...

teyonah-parris-hbz120120newsinfocus-02-1610398654
Teyonah Parris’s fascination with superheroes began with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In a world where most ’90s kids identified with TMNT’s resident reporter April O’Neil, Parris wanted to be a Turtle. She loved their bravado. But did heroes always have to be men? “Turtles are turtles,” Parris says. “But they’re guys.” So it’s fitting that Parris will now get to have a hand in making superhero history herself. This winter, the actress will become the first female Black character to join the beloved Avengers when she takes on the role of Monica Rambeau in WandaVision, a new Marvel Studios series streaming on Disney+. For Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fans, WandaVision offers a deeper look at the relationship between Avengers Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth...

Every Question You Were Afraid To Ask About Dermarolling, Answered (ELLE)

I know I’m not alone when I say that the current lockdown has been both a blessing and a curse for my skin. What’s great about the lockdown is that I can really work on my acne without fear of air pollution, dirt, and debris from my daily commute, triggering breakouts. Then, there’s the downside. Thanks to lockdown mandates, many of us (myself included) cannot treat said breakouts with monthly facials or trips to the derm’s office. Instead, I’ve been searching for ways to supplement professional services with at-home treatments—safely, of course. Enter: Dermarolling. At first glance, the handheld machine comes off as intimidating. Rolling miniature needles up, down, and across my face is supposed to help combat acne scarring and evening out...

Harry Styles’s New Video Is a Welcome Dose of New Year Cheer (VOGUE)

Screenshot202021-01-0120at2015.55.02
It’s the first day of the new year, and whether you’re reflecting on your resolutions or nursing a hangover, we could all do with a dose of something cheerful to start 2021 off right. And on that, Harry Styles has you covered. The pop star is capping off a year of chart-topping success and Grammy nominations for his sophomore album Fine Line (and, lest we forget, a headline-grabbing Vogue cover) with a surprise video, released earlier today, for his song “Treat People With Kindness.” The black-and-white visual sees Styles as a cabaret star performing in an Art Deco nightclub, decked out in a head-to-toe Gucci look featuring a glittering cropped tuxedo jacket, high-waisted Jazz Age trousers, and a Fred Astaire-worthy sequinned bow tie. It wasn’t just the timing of the...

Gabriela Hearst Named Creative Director of Chloé (VOGUE)

Screen Shot 2020-12-07 at 11.28.39 AM
Gabriela Hearst, the Uruguay-born, New York–based designer whose eponymous label turned five this year, is the new creative director of Chloé. CEO Riccardo Bellini welcomed her in a statement this morning. Hearst is the first non-European to hold this post (Natacha Ramsay-Levi’s exit was announced last week). Her craft-forward aesthetic meshes with Chloé’s, but what likely sealed the deal for Hearst was her sustainability bona fides. Last month in an interview with WWD, Bellini indicated that Chloé was seeking B Corporation certification for its social and environmental performance and creating an advisory board to hold the company accountable. “What a brand stands for, its beliefs and values, will become as relevant as products and aesthetics,” he said. For many brands sustainability has become...

Velour is making a comeback, and Irina Shayk is helping spread that message. Yesterday, the Russian model was photographed walking down the streets of New York in a gray hoodie, crew-neck tank, and fitted joggers. The entire ensemble comes courtesy of SKIMS, Kim Kardashian West’s shapewear label that recently introduced a loungewear collection made of the plush knit—one that older millennials know all too well. Velour Hoodie Skimsskims.com $78.00 SHOP NOW In the early 2000s, the velour tracksuit was the outfit of choice for celebs, society swans, and anyone who partied at Bungalow 8. Paired with a Von Dutch cap, bug-eye sunglasses, and a Starbucks cup, the style imbued ease, if indifference. It was a time when Instagram didn’t exist, when the Internet was accessed via dial-up, and when street style...

What Supreme’s $2.1 Billion Sale Means for Fashion (VOGUE)

02-lv-supreme
Even during a retail slump, high-stakes fashion deals persist. After some turmoil, LVMH is moving forward with its acquisition of Tiffany & Co. Alibaba and Richemont recently invested $300 million each in Farfetch, plus another $250 million to establish Farfetch China to create a global luxury-fashion conglomerate. Supreme, the behemoth skateboarding company based in New York, is the latest fashion company acquired in a mega-deal: Today the brand announced its $2.1 billion sale to VF Corporation, the company that owns Vans, The North Face, and Timberland—all frequent Supreme collaborators—and Dickies. “We are proud to join VF, a world-class company that is home to great brands we’ve worked with for years, including The North Face, Vans, and Timberland,” said Supreme’s founder James Jebbia in a...
