These “Puffer Coat Sandals” Are Equally Extreme, Sustainable, and Chic (VOGUE)

tr2
@ugo_paulon/ Instagram If you’re looking for an antidote to the minimalist, barely-there shoe this summer, look no further than the label Ugo Paulon. The sandals are like little puffer coats for the feet, with bulbous, sculptural straps that lace around the calves. They’re accentuated with spirals and swirly prints in sandy and brown hues, or light pinks and fiery oranges. In short: It’s a ‘grammable footwear dream, already catching the eye of Vogue Market Editor Naomi Elizee and the musician Shygirl (who happened to be the first Ugo Paulon customer). @naomielizee/Instagram While the footwear is certainly a delight to look at, the story behind them is equally intriguing. The label was created by the rather secretive Danish, London-based designer who prefers to simply go by Elise....

What Will Be the Print of the Summer? (VOGUE)

TRENDS
Every season, without fail, there’s a breakout print that takes over our wardrobes. Last summer, it was all about tie-dye—in sweats, dresses, and more. During the summer of 2020, at-home tie-dye kits sold like hotcakes as people looked to busy themselves during lockdown. Groovy tie-dyes persisted in the recent spring 2021 collections too. Sportmax, Dior, Proenza Schouler, and more sent them down the runway. This spring, meanwhile, checkerboard knits also took over, a graphic alternative to the hippie tie-dye. Brands like Tyler McGillivary, Erika Maish, and Paloma Wool all applied checkers onto knitted sweaters, dresses, and more. “It’s a very approachable pattern to learn with, and it’s obviously very pleasing to look at and wear,” Halima Mbwana, designer and founder of Lilliez, told Vogue. Indeed, the breakout prints...

Chet Lo Turns Classic Knitwear on Its Head (W Magazine)

wmg
In 2021, fashion has firmly entered a new era of knitwear. No longer are cashmere sweaters and cable knits the norm—designers are pushing the boundaries and perception of what, exactly, makes a piece knitwear. After a year of pandemic-induced sweat set obsessions, we’re all looking for something that’s still comfortable, only much cooler. Enter the emerging, London-based designer Chet Lo, who’s at the center of it all.  Lo’s designs strike the balance between cozy and futuristic; vibrant, spike-sculpted fabrics resemble the popcorn ripples from your favorite childhood stretchy top—on steroids. The shapes are inspired by Durian fruits (a nod to Lo’s Asian American heritage), and each piece is hand-knitted, in bright shades of neon blue, futuristic purple, and baby pink. The...

Glossier’s New Ultralip Is My Go-To Summer Lipstick (InStyle)

lip
Matte lipstick and I have always been acquaintances, at best. While I love the look of a bold red lip, and admire anyone who wears one on a daily basis — but I'm not into touch ups, flaking, bleeding, and smears on my teeth. That's why I turn to tints or glosses for a more low-key lip product that I can quickly swipe on and forget about. However, as the world is starting to open up again, with mask-wearing now part-time, I'm finding myself in the mood to wear a colorful lip. However, attempting to go from tinted balm to a high-pigmented matte as the weather gets more hot and humid in New York does not sound like a good time. It...

Thank You, Rihanna, for Making a Concealer That Covers My Dark Circles in Seconds (InStyle)

rih
Rihanna has given us so much to be thankful for. Along with a back catalog of incredible music, a collection of fashionable fits, and a skincare line, her Fenty Beauty line remains a source of constant, noteworthy makeup releases. For its latest drop, Fenty Beauty created a concealer that targets a common skin woe: dark circles. Caused by a variety of factors, including genetics, lifestyle, and aging, darkened under-eyes are something many people have to deal with. Treatment or coverage of the under-eye skin isn't necessary by any means, but as for me, I prefer to use makeup to hide them. My decision is due largely to the fact that despite drinking coffee and swearing by an early bedtime, I still often wake up with dark circles....

The Best Eyebrow Gels to Try This Summer and Beyond (VOGUE)

EB
With all the mask wearing of the past 18 months, the focus has been on the eyes like never before, making the search for the best eyebrow gels more of a priority. And now, as we trade social distancing for more in-person interactions, well-defined arches are the perfect accompaniment to a first date or friend reunion. “Brow gels groom the brows into place, creating more fluff as well as accentuating brow hairs’ natural luster,” explains René de la Garza, owner of Brow Down Studio in Los Angeles and celebrity brow stylist to the likes of Lizzo and Cardi B. He adds that brow gel can “help seal in the brow shape before using brow pencil.” When shopping for brow gels, De la Garza recommends looking...

At This Year’s Miss Universe, Miss Singapore’s Look Made a Powerful Statement (VOGUE)

Last night at the Miss Universe pageant in Florida, the reigning Miss Singapore, Bernadette Belle Wu Ong, walked the stage. Ong strutted out while wearing a red bedazzled bodysuit, cuissardes, and a red and white dress. The dress, a riff on Singapore’s national flag, was created by designer Arwin Meriales. According to Meriales’s Instagram, he had only two days to design the piece, which came with exaggerated puffed and pleated sleeves and a long train. But the most powerful element of the look could be found on its reverse. On the back, hand-painted in red and white by artist Paulo Espinosa read the message: “Stop Asian Hate.” Posting the look to Instagram, the contestant wrote the following in the caption: “What...
