Zara’s Massive Makeup Brand Is Launching On May 12 (ELLE)

If you were looking for a sign—a beauty bat signal, of sorts—that makeup was back and better than ever, allow us to introduce you to Zara Beauty. Announced today and launching May 12, fashion giant Zara is launching lipsticks, glosses, nail polishes, bronzers, and more in over 130 shades designed in collaboration with legendary makeup artist Diane Kendal. What's more, the products are all cruelty-free and refillable (save for the polishes and glosses which are housed in eco-chic glass). "It felt like the right time to collaborate with a brand that has such a diverse and inclusive audience, bringing the ethos of high-quality ingredients and clean formulas and making it accessible to everybody—no matter their gender, age, skin color, or personal style," Kendal...

Inside the Mysterious World of Celebrity Beauty Brands (allure)

Models, entertainers, reality television stars, and that girl you saw once on TikTok all have one thing in common: they are bankably beautiful. But how bankable, exactly? Allure delves deep into the foggy universe of the celebrity beauty line — and finds all that glitters isn't sold. Nearly two decades ago, Jessica Simpson had an edible cosmetics line called Dessert Beauty, sold at Sephora. It was sugary and sexy, a shimmering distillation of the spirit of the early aughts. Then it disappeared. At the time, Simpson and her then husband Nick Lachey starred in one of the earliest celebrity reality shows, MTV's Newlyweds. It was a simpler time, predating Instagram, Kardashians, and sponcon. Celebrity beauty looks were documented and dissected primarily on red carpet shows and in...

Chanel Beauty Gets a Punk Makeover on the Resort Runway (VOGUE)

Free-spirited beauty took a decidedly punk turn at today’s Chanel resort 2022 show in the village of Les Baux-de-Provence. Inside the cavernous chambers of the Carrières de Lumières, which were once the setting of Jean Cocteau’s The Testament of Orpheus, artistic director Virginie Viard presented a collection inspired by the iconic black-and-white film, sending miniskirts, fringed dresses, graphic suits, and abbreviated capes down the runway with toughened-up accessories such as fishnet stockings, dog collars and leather holster belts strapped to the thigh. The punk references were all the more distinct above the neck. Most strikingly, the late Stella Tennant served as inspiration for lip piercing jewelry, with a handful of models flashing double Cs along their lower lip. Makeup artist Lucia Pica played up the punk attitude with sculpted...

Lori Harvey Breaks Down Her ’90s-Inspired Makeup Routine (VOGUE)

Last weekend Lori Harvey took the fashion world by storm when photos surfaced of her wearing a custom glittering gold Prada gown to an intimate premiere party at boyfriend Michael B. Jordan’s home. As it turns out, an aureate moment is par for the course for the 24-year-old, who swears by a high-shine above-the-neck equation. “I love to be dewy and glowy and radiant,” Harvey says in the latest installment of Vogue’s Beauty Secrets. Naturally, the first step to a lit-from-within façade begins not with a highlighter or sparkling shadow, but rather a carefully considered complexion-saving routine. “Skin care is definitely one of the highest forms of self-care,” muses Harvey, who is currently putting the finishing touches on her own forthcoming cosmetic line,...

Valentino Makeup Is On The Way (ELLE)

Do you remember where you were the first time you watched Maison Valentino's whimsical couture gowns draped around a diverse cast of models down the runway? Or the first time Pat McGrath's ethereal beauty entranced you looks backstage at Valentino shows? Valentino's commitment to inclusivity is reinforced with each passing runway season and campaign, which brings us to the house's latest trick—Valentino Beauty. Designed by creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli, three words can best describe what's to come with Valentino Beauty: uniqueness, extravaganza, and experimentation. With experimentation being the operative word here, Valentino Beauty will debut with 50 foundation shades, 40 lipstick shades, and a slew of "multi-use, multi-finish products, that speak to the freedom of expression and individuality that lies at...

Behold, Everything You Need To Know About Curtain Bangs (ELLE)

Thinking about getting curtain bangs? I feel you. My itch to get the fringe began during the lengthy quarantine period—between my phase of scrolling through banana bread recipes and stint as a whipped coffee barista for my best friend. I decided to take the plunge as photos of celebrities with the look, like Ariana Grande in her 34+35 music video and new mom Gigi Hadid (who, BTW, garnered 3.6 million comments on her fringed look in the first few hours of her posting her selfie) made it that much more covetable. Admittedly, I was apprehensive before making my hair appointment. Even though I wasn’t scheduling a full-blown haircut, I knew that the slightest tweak to any hair look can have a transformative effect. (Again, did...

Selena Gomez’s Makeup Artist Melissa Murdick On How Her ‘De Una Vez’ Rare Beauty Look Came To Be (ELLE)

Selena Gomez’s soft, romantic makeup in her “De Una Vez” video was made using Gomez’s Rare Beauty line, of course, and came together through a collaboration between Gomez and her longtime makeup artist Melissa Murdick. “Selena has an eye for beauty, obviously, so I typically approach her with some of my own ideas—thank goodness for Pinterest boards—and see what input she has from there!” Murdick says. For “De Una Vez” specifically, Murdick pulled runway images from Dolce & Gabbana spring 2014, Alexander McQueen’s spring 2016 runway, and more as the two pinned down the final look. “Selena’s look was meant to be a bit romantic,” Murdick said. “I wanted her to look very beautiful and feminine to match the overall feel of the video. I...

Camille Vergnes on the Ultimate French-Girl Secret for No-Makeup Makeup (VOGUE)

In the head-spinning age of multistep skin-care routines and mic-drop makeup launches, The One is a space for minimalists to sound off on the single beauty product that’s found a longtime spot in their carefully curated routines. The interior designer Camille Vergnes may accent her Le Marais appartement with Japanese antiques, Vienna Secession touches, and a mohair Edward Wormley “Big Texan” sofa (not to mention a wardrobe filled with Art Deco jewelry and vintage Yves Saint Laurent blouses), but above the neck, the Toulouse-raised 30-something prefers to be more pared back. “In France, it’s about enhancing the beautiful features you already have in a subtle way,” says Vergnes, who complements her long, virgin lengths with just a hydrated, foundation-free complexion (courtesy of Deciem’s hyaluronic acid and the French...

All the Details Behind Lady Gaga’s Inauguration Makeup Look (VOGUE)

Today, at the inauguration ceremony for President Joe Biden in Washington, D.C., Lady Gaga took the stage and dazzled the nation with her moving performance of the national anthem. For the momentous occasion, the pop superstar wore a custom Schiaparelli Couture ball gown, accented by a large gold dove pin (an emblem of peace). She topped it off with an ornamental beauty look that will go down in history. Putting her own twist on an elegant updo, Gaga’s long, platinum lengths were braided into a duo of milkmaid braids and woven with sumptuous black ribbon. Adding a touch of softness, a few face-framing wisps were pulled out in the front, while a pair of red poppies, another nod to a peaceful future, were...

Kim Kardashian West’s Next Trick? Skincare, Of Course (ELLE)

Of all the celebrity skincare routines out there, very few are as interesting—and expensive—as Kimberly Kardashian West's. After all, she is the one who helped popularize the "vampire facial" with a single selfie of her bloodied face in 2013. So it makes sense that the mogul is expanding her KKW Beauty brand to other offerings, including skincare. In June, Kardashian-West sold a 20 percent stake of her KKW Beauty for $200 million to Coty. Now that the deal is officially closed, Coty is rolling out its plans to make Kim K a whole lot richer. According to WWD, Coty plans to develop skincare, haircare, personal care, and nail products at some point in 2022. "Kim shares our true passion for beauty products, and this acquisition allows us to...
