Isa Boulder Wants to Revive the Craft of Cool Knitwear (W Magazine)

The fashion brand Isa Boulder has redefined the idea of the “awkwardly sexy” aesthetic (think: high-cut, silky, clingy bikinis and thin, futuristic-looking knitwear straight from your favorite ‘90s music video). Designers Cecilia Basari and Yuli Suri launched Isa Boulder three years ago as a Bali-based bespoke swimwear label, after being inspired by local Balinese craftspeople who specialized in making bathing suits. They have since become known in the emerging designer space—their pieces are sold on MatchesFashion, Net-a-porter, and SSENSE and have been worn by the likes of Megan Thee Stallion. While Basari and Suri still make swimwear made-to-order, the label’s knits have grown to be just as strong—shrug argyle sweaters with revealing cut-outs, knitted bra tops, backless sweaters, bodycon dresses, and even...

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA CAPTURED THE HIGH-FASHION WORLD OF THE EARLY 2000S (NYLON)

In the early 2000s, high-end fashion was inescapable in mainstream pop culture. Sex and the City made Manolo Blahnik a household name, while Gossip Girl showed teens as savvy consumers of designer bags. Print fashion magazines still loomed large and fashion blogs were taking off as a means of self-expression. The Devil Wears Prada, the 2006 adaptation of Lauren Weisberger’s dishy 2003 novel, is the ultimate '00s fashion film, capturing all the high-end trends and designers of the time in a breezy rom-com package. As Andy, the bright young assistant to Anna Wintour surrogate Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep at her most fabulously haughty), Anne Hathaway goes through a fashion transformation that’s basically a more sophisticated version of the nerd-to-princess one she went through in The Princess Diaries five...

MAISON MARGIELA DEBUTS ARTISANAL 2021 COLLECTION FILM (V Magazine)

To John Galliano, Maison Margiela’s creative director, design is a narrative, a story-telling. “Nothing thrills me more than to be outside in the moonlight,” said John Galliano. Through Maison Margiela’s newest film A Folk Horror Tale that presents the 2021 Artisanal co-ed collection, we can surely discover his inspirations from time and nature. In the moonlight, women scream, people fight, and mysterious alchemy is going on. As a transformative process that challenges science and time, driven by human instinct, alchemy aspires to alter the forces of nature. A take on aggression, the film is indeed beautiful and poetic. The film’s narrative is woven into the collection itself, depicted in motifs in the lining of garments, the embroideries of knits, and the adornments of boots....

THE BEADED PHONE STRAP IS A Y2K ACCESSORY THAT CELEBRITIES LOVE (NYLON)

Whether you’ve seen them on Instagram in your favorite influencers’ mirror selfies or hanging playfully from the pockets of a celebrity in a street style photo, the Y2K-inspired beaded phone strap is everywhere. Up-and-coming brands, like String Ting, Grigri Beads, and more, have taken the “It” accessory on as their speciality and Dua Lipa, Kendall Jenner, Kaia Gerber, Gigi Hadid, and Miley Cyrus are stocking up and flaunting these beaded accoutrements online and IRL. The DIY trend was born out of quarantine and goes hand-in-hand with the kitschy beaded jewelry that has been gaining popularity for a few seasons. It’s also undeniably a second-coming of the bedazzled rhinestones and charmed strings that adorned early-2000s flip phones and Sidekicks, but, of course, updated for today’s ubiquitous iPhone. And while Instagram and TikTok...

FENDI HAUTE COUTURE 2021 TRANSCENDS TIME (V Magazine)

Courtesy of Fendi Mr. Kim Jones ethereal second Fendi couture collection originates from a world of eternal elegance. Inspired by ancient Roman architecture, the collection is a poetic transfiguration of the past within the present day. Jones debuted his first Haute Couture collection for Fendi last season, which “traced his transition from England” to Italy via a study of literature references and romance. The British designer continued that romantic thread this season, but this time, in his new muse city of Rome. Courtesy of Fendi Courtesy of Fendi As seen through the genius lens of director Luca Guadagnino and music by Max Richter, the film takes place in an ancient Rome domus built for Fendi goddesses and gods. Jones settled in the Eternal City, where...

Gigi Hadid Just Wore Two of Hollywood’s Most Popular (and Affordable) Accessories (InStyle)

I don't usually put much effort into accessorizing my outfits — and even less so the past year and a half — but after seeing Gigi Hadid's latest off-duty look, that's about to change. The supermodel just served up a lesson on how to play up a look with small but mighty closet additions and I, for one, am taking detailed notes. Hadid was photographed out and about in New York City, and it was hard to miss in her in that mood-boosting look. She wore bright orange PrettyLittleThing flare pants that appeared as comfy as your go-to leggings, only 10 times chicer, and a gray graphic tee that she ever so slightly tucked into her pants. A slew of accessories finished off the look, and frankly, they...

HOW TO SHOP AND FIND VINTAGE JEAN PAUL GAULTIER, ACCORDING TO EXPERTS (NYLON)

Very few brands can impact the market quite like Jean Paul Gaultier. In fact, the designer’s archival designs have become so popular among millenials and Gen Z that the storied maison announced earlier this year that, after being out of commission for nearly a decade, it would be bringing its ready-to-wear line back. Prior to the news, the brand posted an obscure message on Instagram back in May to signify the end of an era, sending fans of the label into a frenzy as they scrambled to get their hands on something, anything from past collections. As prices began to go up almost immediately, it was clear that resellers, too, wanted to get in on the action. According to Vestiaire Collective, as reported by WWD, searches...

Sofia Richie and Vanessa Hudgens Can’t Stop Wearing Necklaces Like the Ones You Made at Summer Camp (InStyle)

Summer 2020 was pretty much canceled thanks to the pandemic, so it's no surprise everyone is looking to have tons of fun and get extra bold this summer, especially when it comes to their going-out style. After spending a year in stay-at-home clothes, all this built-up fashion energy is manifesting in the form of a nostalgic accessory trend that relies on bright colors and eclectic designs: summer camp jewelry. Remember those days spent picking out your favorite colored strings and braiding friendship bracelets with your besties? Or stringing together the most mismatched array of neon beads to create a personalized necklace? Well, that style has made a comeback this summer in a big way. The trend can be budget-friendly and it's celebrity-endorsed, with Vanessa...

VIRGIL ABLOH RETURNS WITH “LABORATORY OF FUN” FOR OFF-WHITE (V magazine)

Courtesy of Off-White It’s been over a year since designers could host a IRL runway show and we’ve been itching, waiting for their grand return. Virgil Abloh revealed the Off-White Fall/Winter 2021 Collection during Haute Couture week in Paris after 16 months of being deprived of doing anything in-person. Creating a see-now, buy-now collection named “Laboratory of Fun”, the fan favorite designer did not come to play. “Shit is about to get crazy or as they say in french “ça va être folle”” said the announcer in a socal voice as Bella Hadid opened the show on a school gym-themed stage in an electrifying royal blue sheath dress with matching knee-high boots. Courtesy of Off-White As the mask wearing invitees watched while recording the...
