There is a huge misconception that comes with corsets. Films that take place between the 16th to 19th century have influenced our judgment of how we perceive corsets and most think that they cause an immense amount of pain, are organ crushers, and were used as an oppressive tool by men. We watch exaggerated depictions of maids tying up corsets on their wealthy ladies until they can’t breathe, think of Gone With the Wind’s Scarlett O’Hara death-gripping a bedpost. In actuality, corsets were never intended to hurt a woman’s body, but to enhance her natural curves.
