Opening Ceremony Threw A Raging Dance Party To Increase Voter Turnout

Photography Colby Blount/ BFA

In partnership with the grassroots organization, the brand’s rager emphasized how the 2018 elections could change the course of American politics. Oh, and there was pizza.

House remixes of 90s Janet Jackson, pork belly bao, and looks consisting of everything from vintage Raf Simons to waist-length pastel-grey braids. This is not what you would expect at your standard benefit (especially one involving politics). But, then again, Opening Ceremony isn’t really the kind of brand that does “standard.” Saturday night, OC partnered with Swing Left, a progressive organization working to increase voter turnout, to get the message out to New York’s young creatives: VOTE IN THE 2018 ELECTIONS. Understandably, a lot of hope and faith has been placed in the 2020 Presidential Election....

You Can Now Wear Detachable Jeans That Turn Into Shorts, Thanks To Opening Ceremony

landscape-1495143726-denim
We've seen a lot of questionable jean trends this year from Topshop's clear plastic jeans to Vetement's bum-bearing offering. Now, Opening Ceremony has teamed up with the Y/Project to create a pair of detachable jeans than turn into super-short shorts, originally spotted by the Metro. While attached the jeans show off your "under-butt" and are separated by unbuttoning the trousers to reveal some high-rise shorts and come in two colors, acid wash and black. The brand describes the eye-catching jeans as "2-in-1 Y/Project trousers [which] come in a straight-leg silhouette with slim-fitting, detachable shorts that feature high-rise cutouts along the front." If that wasn't enough, the Opening Ceremony and Y/Project collaboration has also come up with a pair of garter strap jeans. The jeans...

"How did they get all these fashion people to see the ballet?" remarked my seatmate. I would argue, who wouldn't want to see the ballet? But that's besides the point. She's talking about editors seated in every direction I turn and the stars peppered throughout the audience (I spot Meg Ryan two rows ahead of me, Leigh Lezark at the corner of my eye, and I know Solange and Maggie Gyllenhaal are around somewhere). But the answer to her question was actually quite very simple: Everyone wanted to see Opening Ceremony's collaboration with choreographer Justin Peck of the New York City Ballet on Saturday night. In another one of its famous unconventional moves, the contemporary-cool brand had decided to give up...

Opening Ceremony has Some Pretty Crazy (AND EXPENSIVE) Gift Ideas This Holiday Seaseon

mtqznteymjexndqzntu3nte5
There's a rising trend and preference for gifting "experiences" over material things, and this holiday season, Opening Ceremony founders Carol Lim and Humberto Leon have some pretty crazy offerings. Always the creative duo to think outside the box — Opening Ceremony's pageant-style NYFW show, Kenzo's fragrance music video and musical runway show for H&M, for example — Lim and Leon are putting their culinary skills up for purchase as a holiday present. For a cool $5,000 (we did say it's crazy), the two will cook up some tasty Asian dishes for a group of four in one's very own home in New York City. The one-of-a-kind experience is part of Opening Ceremony's festive gift guide called "CrazyCozyCool." In addition to a pricey home-cooked meal, shoppers can...
