08-sneakers-lede.w710.h473

Cheap and Cheerful is a weekly column that highlights the chicest inexpensive finds. Because nothing’s more satisfying than looking good while spending less.
In a Fashion Week fog of Balenciaga sock boots and quirky Céline sandals, designer Sara Battaglia’s street style was a breath of fresh air. She wore a gray-checked skirt-suit and carried a colorful bucket bag from her own fall collection, but what made the look was her $60 Converse sneakers.
Recall the feeling of getting a fresh pair of kicks for the first day of school: You wanted to wear them with everything, right? This is the Fashion Week version — and unlike those Balenciagas and Céline’s, you can get them all for under $120. Read on for eight options inspired by Battaglia’s look.

hbz-nike-index2-1503330996
In the collaboration of every hypebeast's dream, Virgil Abloh and Nike have joined forces for a new sneaker range. Nike tapped the Off-White designer to recreate 10 of its most iconic footwear styles for a project dubbed "The Ten." Bringing his distinct streetwear aesthetic to the table, Abloh redesigned Nike classics like the Air Jordan I, Air Max 90, Air Force 1 Low, Converse Chuck Taylor and more. "What we're talking about here is larger than sneakers, it’s larger than design culture. It’s nothing short of state-of-the-art design. These 10 shoes have broken barriers in performance and style. To me, they are on the same level as a sculpture of David or the Mona Lisa. You can debate it all you want,...

The Nike Cortez Is Getting Another Makeover

In an effort to continue shoe of summer domination, Nike has teamed up with Andrea Lieberman, celebrity stylist and A.L.C. founder, to reimagine the Nike Cortez in three luxe new colorways.

Lieberman has styled her ready-to-wear collections with the Nike Cortez for six seasons, so it's no surprise the brand looked to the designer for a reimagining. "I'm a '70s kid, so I grew up with the famous Farrah Fawcett Cortez poster on my wall and the iconic shoes on my feet," she says. "The Cortez have always slid right into my wardrobe. Through the '70s, '80s, and '90s, I wore them very casually, pairing them with jeans and a tee...

Nike Just Completely Redesigned Its Sports Bra

landscape-1499877730-sydney-leroux-3up-final-crop-lead-71836
A sports bra is a sports bra is a sports bra. Ideally, it keeps your breasts in place while you workout—beginning and end of story. But today Nike launched its first sports bra made with the patented fancy Flyknit fabric—the Nike FE/NOM Flyknit Bra—and kiiiind of changed the game. The Flyknit Bra promises to both holds its shape and provide targeted zones of enhanced support and breathability: The fabric under your breasts, for instance, should be both more absorbent and quick-to-dry than the zones on your shoulders. Two single-layer panels (some Nike bras have up to 41 panels and 22 seams) work to both keep your breasts separated—this both isn't easy, and prevents Ye Olde Uni-boob—and hold them firmly but comfortably...

Nike Features a Transgender Woman Of Color In Its Newest Ad For Pride Month

hbz-nike-index-1498509408
To celebrate Pride Month, Nike cast transgender vogue artist and ballroom dancer Leiomy Maldonado in a new video campaign for its #BeTrue collection. It's the second Nike commercial to feature a transgender athlete after Chris Mosier, the first transgender man to earn a spot on the U.S. men's national team, starred in a video campaign last August. It's a pivotal move for Nike, after the sportswear brand received flack for supporting President Donald Trump during his campaign (more than 60,000 people signed a petition urging Nike to #DumpTrump and to not renew the flagship store's lease at Midtown's Trump Tower). The decision to include a transgender woman of color is part of a larger initiative by Nike to be inclusive; other...

Though it doesn't take much for the fashion set to go crazy over a pair of throwback kicks, seeing the It model-of-the-moment wear them (while skateboarding, nonetheless) is enough to make us all add them to our shopping carts immediately.
