Two worlds collided, or rather were brought back together, when Halima Aden and Carine Roitfeld paired up for a talk at Business of Fashion VOICES. Aden was born into a Kenyan refugee camp then moved to Minnesota by age 7. She hit headlines in 2016 as she threw out the dusty rule book of Miss USA and proudly donned her hijab, despite the surrounding community's attempts to discourage her from doing so. Carine, the iconic Parisian stylist who was at the helm of Vogue Paris for more than a decade, is a pioneer of fashion and chose Aden to star on the 10th cover of her critically acclaimed CR Fashion Book.

Miss Teen USA Is Getting Rid of the Swimsuit Competition


The Miss Teen USA pageant is getting a major update: They're ditching the long-criticized swimsuit competition, according to USA Today.
The Miss Universe organization has in the past defended judging young women for the way they look in swimwear as a way to encourage athleticism. So now, they're trading the swimwear portion for an "athletic wear competition," according to the report.

"This decision reflects an important cultural shift we're all celebrating that empowers women who lead active, purposeful lives and encourage those in their communities to do the same," Miss Universe president Paula Shugart wrote in a memo to state directors obtained by the outlet.
