Kristen Stewart Runs to a Beyoncé Song in Latest Chanel Ad

kristenstewartchanelgabrielle
Kristen Stewart's identity is so tangled up with Chanel that, countless campaigns later, the two have finally become one. In the new ad for the luxury fashion house's Gabrielle fragrance, the actress basically plays herself even as she pays homage to the house's founder Coco Chanel. As Chanel's head of global creative resources Thomas du Pré de Saint-Maur explains in a statement, "Instead of retracing [Gabrielle Chanel's] life, we chose to put the spotlight on her free and rebel-at-heart personality." The one-minute clip begins artfully with the iconic brand's muse cloaked in a web of gauzy fabric. Once Stewart finds her way out of the cocoon-like swath, she breaks free and sprints to what might be Beyoncé's most overlooked song: a one-off she released in...

Karl Lagerfeld Opens Up About His Ex-Boyfriend In Candid Interview

landscape_nrm_1421938951-hbz-karl-lagerfeld-index
Karl Lagerfeld rarely talks about his former or current loves, but he's opened up about his ex-boyfriend, Jacques de Bascher, in a new book. Marie Ottavi's new tome, Jacques de Bascher, dandy de l'ombre ("Jacques de Bascher, shadow dandy") is a portrait of the cultivated, aristocratic Frenchman, who was known for his elegance, debauched parties and sharp tongue. However, in an extract published by WWD, Lagerfeld says that—despite being together for 18 years during the '70s and '80s—the two never had sex. "I infinitely loved that boy but I had no physical contact with him. Of course, I was seduced by his physical charm," he said. The Chanel creative director remained loyal to his boyfriend (despite his well-known affair with Yves Saint Laurent) until he died of...

Standing on the Shoulders of Giants at Chanel Cruise

365729
“With the political situation in France I thought it was good to remind people that the Ancient Greeks invented democracy,” Karl Lagerfeld said following the showing of his Cruise collection in Paris, which took place the very evening of the final debate between presidential candidates Marine Le Pen and Emmanuel Macron and just five days before the election. Then, as is so often the case when he says something he believes may be either contentious or over-analytical: “I say that for fun, but it’s true.” Entitled The Modernity of Antiquity, this was a light and light-hearted collection, where the unparalleled talents of all involved – from the petites mains responsible for what looked like tweeds but were in fact embroideries made...

Christian Louboutin Makes Crayons Now

landscape-1490213348-nor-1344
There's a part in The Devil Wears Prada where Andy Sachs sells her tainted designer wardrobe, using it to fund her new life as an idealistic newspaper rookie. Five years ago, Australian artist CJ Hendry did the same thing, unloading every investment piece in her closet onto eBay. "I was studying finance, and hopeless at it. But I didn't believe that being creative was an actual job, so I got a job on the sales floor at Chanel in my hometown—Brisbane, Australia," says Hendry. "I did it for a while and then I said, 'Right, I've got to do this. I've got to be an artist.' So I sold everything I owned on eBay—bags, shoes, jackets, everything— and I made...

Meet The New Chanel Bag Collection To Covet: Gabrielle

landscape-1490039440-hbz-chanel-bag-00-index

Gabrielle Chanel became known for making clothing and accessories that epitomized the modern day woman, as they were not only elegant, but also functional. Over the past 30 years Karl Lagerfeld has continued to recreate pieces that achieve this quality, and the launch of Chanel's 'Gabrielle' bag collection does exactly this.
Marking the brand's first major bag collection since 'The Boy' in 2011, the collection was introduced during the Spring-Summer 2017 Ready-to-Wear runway show, and is modeled after the binocular cases men used to wear over the shoulder at the racecourse.

Karl Lagerfeld Reveals What It’s Like To Photograph Kendall, Kim And Kanye

landscape-1484320226-hbz-kendall-karl-index
Karl Lagerfeld is as skilled a photographer as he is a designer. The creative director of Chanel, Fendi and his own eponymous line has taken to the lens for the brands' campaigns, including those starring Kristen Stewart and Willow Smith, and magazine editorials, several of which appeared in Harper's BAZAAR. In a new interview with CNBC, the fashion icon opened up about what it's like stepping behind the camera for It models like Kendall Jenner, as well as major celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. Jenner has served as somewhat of a muse for the designer, especially after walking in both Chanel and Fendi shows and starring in a campaign for the latter, which Lagerfeld shot. "She's a nice kid you...

This Is How Fashion Designers Selfie

Photo: Getty Images
Since the dawn of fashion, designers have been crafting muses in their own image, sending models out on the runway in outfits meant to evoke their creator. Coco Chanel did it in the ’20s and ’30s with her tennis frocks and boater hats; her successor, Karl Lagerfeld, has made something of a cottage industry of not only dressing models like Coco, but also casting actresses to portray Mademoiselle Chanel in his short films for the house. But in the age of the selfie, making models look like the designers they’re working for simply isn’t enough. Cue fashion’s latest response: Clothing with the designers’ faces printed boldly on it. Call it an elegant solution to the ever-revolving door of designer departures,...

Your First Look At Cara Delevingne’s New Chanel Campaign

Photography Karl Lagerfeld
Though Cara Delevingne is increasingly turning her attention to acting (this year, she’s starring in six more titles, including Zoolander 2 and Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie) she’s still modelling. Case in point: her new advertising campaign for Chanel. Unveiled today, the campaign features the actress-slash-model wearing the brand’s SS16 eyewear collection – photographed, as they always are, by the inimitable Karl Lagerfeld. Comprising of six images, the star wears a variety of models with the Chanel’s signature tweed and some baseball caps (which reflect her own slightly tomboyish style). It’s not the first time Delevingne has modelled for Chanel – she’s starred in the house’s Métiers d’Art 2015, AW14 and Cruise 2013 ads, and 15 of its shows. The unveiling of this campaign comes just a week...
