Kaia Gerber And Karl Lagerfeld Teaming Up To Design A Collection

Following in the footsteps of Tommy Hilfiger's successful collaboration with "it" model Gigi Hadid, Karl Lagerfeld, patron-saint-to-upcoming supermodels, has tapped Cindy Crawford's 16-year-old daughter Kaia Gerber to design a new line.

Gerber has walked for Chanel twice, even opening her first for the luxury brand, which is a huge achievement given her catwalk debut was last season. WWD reports the duo will be creating a collection of ready-to-wear apparel, jewelry, shoes and sunglasses, set to hit stores in September. The range will reportedly fuse Gerber's laid-back west coast style with Lagerfeld's penchant for "Parisian elegance."

Karl Lagerfeld Heads Home For Latest Chanel Show

Chanel Pre-Fall 2018 show@chanelofficial

The Parisian house presented its nautical Pre-Fall collection in Hamburg last night

On its travels around the globe for its Resort and Pre-Fall Métiers d’Art collections, Chanel has presented shows in Texas, Cuba, Salzburg and Dubai – but never in Karl Lagerfeld’s hometown of Hamburg. That all changed last night when the Parisian house staged its Pre-Fall 2018 collection there as a homecoming for the German designer. Here’s what went down at the show.

IT TOOK PLACE IN AN OPERA HOUSE Taking place in the Great Concert Hall of the Elbphilharmonie – a newly built structure in the city – guests took their seats in the multi-tiered space. The models walked around the entire venue before gathering in the pit next to the orchestra...

Cheat Sheet: Why Is The World Still Obsessed With ’90s Chanel?

Under the reign of Lagerfeld, Chanel went stratospheric, peaking in '90s collections which have earned their place in design textbooks for decades to come. We dissect the long-lasting appeal of a house in its prime.

When Karl Lagerfeld became Chanel’s creative director in 1983, he wasn’t walking into a particularly lucrative job. The fashion house was, in his own words, “old hat” —  only Parisian doctors’ wives were wearing Chanel. “Nobody wanted it, it was hopeless,” Lagerfeld affirmed. Nonetheless, he rose to the challenge, and transformed Chanel into the iconic and covetable brand it is today. Under the reign of Lagerfeld, Chanel went stratospheric, peaking in 90s collections which have earned their place in design textbooks for decades to come. Although Lagerfeld...

The History Behind Those Coveted Chanel Boots

A/W91 CampaignPhotography by Karl Lagerfeld, courtesy of Chanel

Whether adorning supermodels’ ankles or making movie cameos, Gabrielle Chanel’s favoured footwear continues to inspire today

Although Gabrielle Chanel wore her leather mid-calf motorcycle boots for almost any occasion, the esteemed designer never included a pair in her collections. “My ankles swell a little and with these boots, you can’t see a thing! One day we’ll do them for the collection,” she once insisted, though she never fulfilled the promise. Karl Lagerfeld has honoured his predecessor’s shoe of choice on countless occasions, however; one of his latest incarnations – the cap-toed, two-tone glitter extravaganzas that appeared for A/W17 – have already long transcended the catwalk, working their way onto every influencer’s feet, and into Instagram feeds and fantasies. Not just an it-shoe, the...

Karl Lagerfeld On The Key To Success

I love Murakami’s octopus character, Taco 7, because it’s just so funny. Although I’ve never actually met Takashi, I think he’s a wonderful artist. And if he’s anything like what he expresses in his art, I’m sure we would get along. But am I like his octopus that eats its own leg in order to survive? In some ways, I guess. I have survived in the world pretty well, but that is mostly because I’m lucky. I have lifelong contracts at two billion-dollar companies, Fendi and Chanel, which gives me a level of freedom that—let’s be honest—nobody else in fashion really has. So I don’t have any sort of feeling that I need to survive; I don’t feel like life is a struggle.And...

Gigi And Bella Hadid Coordinated In Chanel Coats And They’ve Never Looked Chicer

Gigi and Bella Hadid proved last night that you're never too old to coordinate outfits with your sibling. Although the 22- and 21-year-old didn't commit to completely identical sisterly ensembles, the pair subtly matched in Chanel coats from the French house's Pre-Fall 2017 collection.

Gigi channeled her go-to monochrome style in a tweed coat over a gray sweater dress with pewter sock boots and dangling earrings. Meanwhile Bella went the vampy route in a black lambskin coat, black pumps and caged studded gloves. Both outerwear pieces were accented with a thick Chanel logo belt at the waist.

These were fitting looks for the night, considering the Hadids attended a celebratory dinner honoring Karl Lagerfeld...

Mariah Carey Serenaded Karl Lagerfeld With a Performance Of “Touch My Body”

Last night, Karl Lagerfeld was honored at an intimate dinner hosted by V Magazine in New York. To fête the occasion, the designer was serenaded with a special performance by none other than Mariah Carey (which is quite truthfully the only way anyone should ever be honored in life).
How does one pay tribute to the legendary fashion designer behind Chanel, Fendi, and his own namesake brand? With a performance of the 2008 classic "Touch My Body," of course. The Elusive Chanteuse herself serenaded Lagerfeld with three fitting song choices: "Touch My Body," "Hero," and "We Belong Together."
Karl basked in all the glory from a close-up front row seat:

She sound amazing! 💯 #MariahCarey perform Touch My Body at #KarlLagerfeld's birthday last night 👑❤ Mariah...

Kristen Stewart Runs to a Beyoncé Song in Latest Chanel Ad

Kristen Stewart's identity is so tangled up with Chanel that, countless campaigns later, the two have finally become one. In the new ad for the luxury fashion house's Gabrielle fragrance, the actress basically plays herself even as she pays homage to the house's founder Coco Chanel. As Chanel's head of global creative resources Thomas du Pré de Saint-Maur explains in a statement, "Instead of retracing [Gabrielle Chanel's] life, we chose to put the spotlight on her free and rebel-at-heart personality." The one-minute clip begins artfully with the iconic brand's muse cloaked in a web of gauzy fabric. Once Stewart finds her way out of the cocoon-like swath, she breaks free and sprints to what might be Beyoncé's most overlooked song: a one-off she released in...

Karl Lagerfeld Opens Up About His Ex-Boyfriend In Candid Interview

Karl Lagerfeld rarely talks about his former or current loves, but he's opened up about his ex-boyfriend, Jacques de Bascher, in a new book. Marie Ottavi's new tome, Jacques de Bascher, dandy de l'ombre ("Jacques de Bascher, shadow dandy") is a portrait of the cultivated, aristocratic Frenchman, who was known for his elegance, debauched parties and sharp tongue. However, in an extract published by WWD, Lagerfeld says that—despite being together for 18 years during the '70s and '80s—the two never had sex. "I infinitely loved that boy but I had no physical contact with him. Of course, I was seduced by his physical charm," he said. The Chanel creative director remained loyal to his boyfriend (despite his well-known affair with Yves Saint Laurent) until he died of...
