It's almost impossible to talk about shows like Sex and the City, Gossip Girl or Scandal without discussing one of the most important aspects of the series: the fashion. Carrie's tutu, Blair's headbands, Olivia's coats — it all helps set the scene, set the tone and, of course, set real life trends. To celebrate this connection, The Paley Center for Media has decided to host Behind the Seams: Fashion and TV, a discussion on the relationship between TV and fashion.
Nina Garcia, editor-in-chief of ELLE, Joanna Coles, chief content officer of Hearst Magazines, and fashion designer Zac Posen will lead the discussion about the effect TV has had on the fashion industry and how TV has brought attention to the fashion world.
Demi Lovato took a page out of the Kardashian fashion rule book when she hit the MTV European Music Awards in London on Sunday night wearing a statement plaid suit sans shirt.
She sported waist-length hair and added a pop of color to her look with bright red eyeshadow. The no-shirt trend has been picking up speed, although it does leave me wondering a few things: Does your torso get cold? Doesn't it severely limit your arm movements? Is dealing with sticky fashion tape worth it? Is it actually faster to pick out an outfit if you have one less thing (i.e., a shirt) to match it with?
Gigi Hadid knows how to work the monochrome trend, and tonight she upgraded it with some extra wattage. The model stepped out for her Gigi Hadid x Maybelline launch party in London wearing a yellow-on-yellow ensemble from Ralph Lauren. The look made for a bright statement and a stark contrast to the British city's cloudy skies.
Hadid's coat and sequined mini dress were from Lauren's Fall 2017 collection, which just premiered during NYFW in the designer's garage. She paired the look with gold, glittery heeled pumps. All together, the look was a Kira-Kira addict's dream come true.
This is what the coat looked like on the catwalk:
It might be French to go "f*ck it," put on some lipstick, and go out in your day clothes, but sometimes always, it's fun to dress up. At this precise moment in time, these are the essentials that should make up the part of your wardrobe marked "Strictly for Nighttime Shenanigans."
1 A LBD
Theory Corset Strapless Satin Mini Dress, $395
Sure, it might be common sense to own a LBD, but with the *going out* LBD, the three-finger rule flies out the window. Let it be mini and cinched (corset-style if you want it super-cinched) or strapless if your fashion tape/strapless bra combo is strong.
Remember the iconic Eiffel Tower purse Carrie Bradshaw wore in the first Sex and the City film? The one that made you think, "hmm, maybe I can carry famous landmarks as accessories too?" Well ten years later it turns out you can finally own that exact bag with help from model Toni Garrn.
