How To Emulate Gwyneth Paltrow’s 1990s Minimalist Style

Sliding Doors, 1998(Film still)

Her character in 1998’s Sliding Doors sports some seriously chic Calvin Klein ensembles. We examine the film’s lessons in life and style alike

What could possibly be better than one Gwyneth Paltrow? Well, two of course, both dressed head to toe in full-look Calvin Klein. Fortunately enough, this is exactly what the audience is treated to in the 1998 film Sliding Doors, where Paltrow plays Helen Quilley, a woman whose life splits into two parallel paths depending on whether or not she misses the tube, after being fired from her job in Public Relations for stealing vodka. (Relatable.) Alongside some highly profound commentary on serendipity and self-preservation, Sliding Doors is a filmic journey into the depths of the late-90s. From the mention of ‘mad cow...

Guess Jeans U.S.A Honors Anna Nicole Smith For New Capsule Collection

slack-imgs-800x630
During Anna Nicole Smith's heyday, the American fashion model, actress, and TV personality ruled the '90s and reigned supreme as the ultimate Guess girl. To honor the late and great model, Guess has created an exclusive collection made in collaboration with photographer, artist, and designer Cali Thornhill DeWitt. The exclusive line includes hoodies and t-shirts which features images of Anna Nicole Smith's most iconic Guess campaign in 1992. The back of both pieces are printed with oversized, red letters asking the question “Did you miss me?” "When I started talking to Guess about working on a project together, my immediate hope was to revisit the queen, Anna Nicole Smith,” said DeWitt in a press statement. “I missed seeing her on billboards, floating above Hollywood, looking out over the city. Having...

Kanye West Has Banned Kim Kardashian From Wearing Big Sunglasses

Photography Bauer-Griffin via Getty Images

"He sent me like, millions of 90s photos with tiny little glasses."

The Kardashian-West family has always been brutally honest about their loved ones’ fashion choices. Remember when Kanye physically went through Kim’s closet and threw out everything that wasn’t cool enough? Or when Kim sent that iconic email to Kris banning her from “pilgrim adams family outfits”? It appears Kanye also stages fashion interventions via email these days. On a recent episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Kim revealed that ‘Ye has been e-instructing her to ditch oversized sunglasses for tiny 90s-inspired frames. "Kanye picked [these sunglasses] out," Kim explained to Kourtney and longtime BFF Jonathan Cheban over lunch at an indoor restaurant. "He sent me a whole email like, 'You cannot wear big...

Helmut Lang Revives His Taxi Ad Campaign From The ‘90s

lq-taxi-must-credit-iain-r-webb-2000-1440x630

The limited-edition capsule collection is here.

In the ‘90s, Helmut Lang’s distinct design aesthetic—androgynous, utilitarian, slinky style—revolutionized and defined the era in fashion. In 1998, Lang became the first fashion designer to advertise on New York City taxis, an ingenious idea that has since left a lasting impression. The idea itself was a tough task to take on considering that 1998 was a time well before Taxi TV existed. Since then, dozens of fashion houses have tried to emulate the same idea,  using it as a form of communication. Today, Helmut Lang is going back in time and paying homage to his cab ads with 275 New York City taxicabs that are hitting the NYC streets, equipped with Helmut Lang...

Seven Ways to Style a Shirt, Inspired by 90s Ad Campaigns

365944
When asked which garment she would have liked to have been responsible for creating during a rare interview in 2012, Rei Kawakubo declared, “I would have liked to invent the plain white shirt.” And it makes perfect sense that the Comme des Garçons founder champion this seemingly humble item of clothing, for despite outward appearances, the simple button-up holds infinite sartorial possibility. Much like Kawakubo herself, the white shirt is a fashion icon, but doesn’t think of itself as such. It’s a democratic garment, taking on new meaning through the way it is worn. It is both anti-fashion and high fashion, perennially chic. So if you don’t already own one, it’s about time you go out and buy it – whether...

Why Witchcraft And The Occult Is So Hot Right Now

cover-witch

Despite the fact that it is almost 2017, the struggle for equality between the sexes is far from over. In fact, recent events like Trump’s election and Texas’ new abortion rule are two signs of a possible regression. Nevertheless, it seems that an ancient power is being harnessed to tackle the patriarchy in the form of Witchcraft. By channelling such femme energy, women have been summoning the powers of the supernatural more than ever across the world of fashion, film and music, transforming it into one of the hottest trends right now.

Here, we examine all of the witchy ways that the occult is casting us under its spell.

The Ultimate Gift for Any 90s Kid

lipsmacker-balm-vault
For most of us, Lip Smacker (you remember those ultra flavorful lip balms!) elicits some major nostalgia for the 90s, Lisa Frank, and everything else that came with it. The compact lip balm was just about the only form of makeup parents allowed before high school, which might explain why so many of us kept a healthy stash of the barely tinted balm in our backpacks. And the more tubes you had, the better. Whether you were a watermelon fan or a Dr. Pepper faithful, there’s a flavor that everyone can relate to. Now Lip Smacker has made all of our 90s dreams come true all over again with the launch of this Ultimate Lip Balm Vault ($50, lipsmacker.com). Just in...

Paris with The Fashion Playbook

IMG_4980
Last weekend I visited Paris, my favorite city in the world. I just love the Parisian way of life. Sitting outside, drinking coffee or a glass of wine whilst eating cheese. Ok, I know that’s really cliché but don’t you feel the same way? Just two days later I went on a business trip, first to Barcelona and then to Bilbao. It was my first business trip ever and I was so nervous. In the end I have to say that it was quite cool, but so exhausting. Unfortunately I didn’t really have time to see the cities at all, still I was a little bit closer to the ocean and had palm trees around. That’s something too :) I shot this...
