Street : Copenhagen Fashion Week

Copenhagen Fashion Week
Playful colors and graphic prints stood out on the cobblestone streets surrounding City Hall and at other show venues during Copenhagen Fashion Week, which included the white tents of the Revolver trade fair in the Meatpacking District, the unrenovated warehouse facility Lokomotivværkstedet and the Danish capital’s sunny waterfront. Attendees showed off lightweight summer coats, long tunics, loose trousers (in both cropped versions and long) and even the occasional cape. The more boho girls went for off-the-shoulder tops and cutoff denim skirts or Levi’s 501 jeans. The Danes accessorized with a range of heels and sneakers, mostly square-shaped handbags and bicycles (often all at the same time.) “You can ride bikes in anything,” said Eva Kruse, chief executive officer of Copenhagen Fashion Week,...

Buy Now, Wear Forever: The Denim Shirt

KIRSTIE ALLEY IN 1991 CREDIT: REX Blue jeans have been the subject of fashion's highest praise. Yves Saint Laurent famously wished he had invented them, Diana Vreeland said they were the most beautiful thing since the gondola and Andy Warhol loved his so much he hoped to die wearing them. But what of their humble often-overlooked offspring: the denim shirt? Helped in part by icons like James Dean and Marlon Brando in Rebel Without a Cause and The Wild One, respectively, in the 1950s it shed its purely functional, utilitarian image as a cloth worn only in the American West, instead...

Summer Beauty 2015: The top trends and must-have products of the season

As we’re sure you’ve noticed, a celebrity being cast as a big label’s spokesperson usually means that said celeb will be wearing nothing but that label for the duration of their contract. For better or worse, we’re pretty much bound to seeing Jennifer Lawrence in Dior for the next few years. Same goes for Keira Knightley in Chanel. But on days when that doesn’t apply (and don’t ask us how this works), A-listers and their very coveted stylists are starting to get crafty with their wardrobe choices, opting for lesser known names when out at photo calls, press events and interviews. For those who only recently kick-started their businesses, having a celebrity wearing your designs early in the game is a...

How To Style A Maxi Skirt For The Office

Yasmin Sewell in an office-readyI Fashion loves a transgression – so much so that, eventually, the transgression in question becomes what Alpha fashion types call A Wardrobe Staple. Underwear as outerwear? Old school. Transparency? Almost de rigueur if you want to inject youthfulness into an otherwise starchy outfit. Bondage? Of course – at least, in the shoe department. One transgression, however, is causing fashion considerable consternation this summer: the question of whether one can wear a maxi skirt to the office. They’ve become practically ubiquitous in out-of-office wardrobes – a badge of honour for those with the kind of creative jobs that allow them to “work” all morning from the al-fresco tables at Caffè Nero or contemplate the novel they’re going to write...
