‘Chokers Are the New Flower Crown,’ Says Taylor Swift, Style Seer

taylor-swift-chokers

Whilst enjoying Coachella over the weekend, Taylor Swift took to Instagram to make a surprisingly shrewd style observation: “I feel like maybe chokers are the new flower crowns?” noted the prominent gang leader, photographed alongside just five of her many disciples/best friends forever as they all put their respective neck accessories on display.

She’s not wrong: While the humble choker necklace is, indeed, far less intrusive than the aggressively “boho” flower crown, its sudden ubiquity as the thing all the cool kids are wearing does recall the regretful period during which you were as good as invisible without a flower crown perched atop your head. Where the...

The Best Looks from Last Night’s Tribeca Film Festival 2016 Chanel Dinner

tribeca-chanel-giovanna-battaglia

Last night, a very chic (and eclectic!) crowd—including Chloë Sevigny, Giovanna Battaglia, Katie Holmes, and more—gathered in NYC for the annual Chanel dinner to celebrate the kickoff of the Tribeca Film Festival. As is to be anticipated with so many It-girls in one place, the head-to-toe looks were pretty outstanding, with nearly every guest choosing an elegant uniform of black and/or white … but let’s be real, mostly black.

The Anti-Trendy Girl’s Way To Wear Trends

ag-galloway-mary-marketslides-20160324-opener
After a seasonal shopping bender, the urge to debut your haul can oftentimes feel like scratching an itch. But as rewarding as it is to rip off the tags and put on a newer, shinier version of yourself, jumping into of-the-moment trends comes with one major potential setback: looking like everyone else. Unless your buys were mostly vintage, there's a pretty good chance you'll spot some doppelgängers on the street in that same off-the-shoulder number or crisp white sneaker. And nothing spoils the excitement of a new purchase like seeing it everywhere. Good news is, you don't have to turn to sketchy sites or avoid adding to cart all together to skirt this issue. Instead, we're taking spring's most wearable, on-trend...

The 10-step Guide To Becoming A Coachella Style Queen

26

Tis weekend has been a bit trying hasn't it? Who else is feeling bored of the endless barrage ofCoachella pictures? No I wasn't there, I was at home in South London reluctantly surveying the epidemic of Instagram photos filling my feeds. Because of this, I feel well-placed to discuss what makes a Coachella 'style queen'.

In the absence of Coachella veterans Kate Bosworth, Diane Kruger and Alexa Chung, Alessandra Ambrosio has taken the baton this year for the person who most embodies the festival's faux boho spirit. We have no idea which acts have headlined (bar Rihanna, who we only know about because someone shared a picture of her in Wild West fringing and even she wasn't on the official bill)...

Gucci’s Poetry Of Luxury

38

Like some regal rebel, Alessandro Michele has stirred up a fashion revolution of opulence and ceremony at Gucci. A year on, he gives us a glimpse into the magical mind than made it happen, backed up by an i-D portfolio from the electric youth scene of Berlin than inspired his spring/summer 16 collection.

To understand why Alessandro Michele's historicist debut collections for Gucci over the past year sit so immaculately in contemporary culture, you need only look at his Instagram. Under the moniker @lallo25, he curates his digital mood board with portraits from the Renaissance and the Baroque era, evoking history's original age of ego and beauty mania in an effortless (and possibly subconscious) parallel between the obsessions...

As a concept, "transitional dressing" is real. For those of us who deal with fickle temperatures and office AC that's set only on BLAST, this kind of a dressing is a thing. THING TO TRY UNDER YOUR SLIP DRESS: A WHITE SHIRT
Always a good trick for de-sexifying an evening piece you want to wear during the day. Leigh Lezark's trompe l'oeil Moschino dress has a white shirt built in, but you can fake it with next-to-zero effort.

How To Wear The Pie Crust Blouse

Credit: Faye Is A Bella Instagram
Was there ever a more unappealing name of a fashion 'must-have' than the pie-crust blouse? And yet, we want one. Don't get me wrong; I like a pie as much as the next person, but it is an unusual name - especially considering fashion's well-publicised dislike of carbs. Obviously, it comes from the fact that the pie-crust collar looks like the swirly pastry often seen on the top of a pie. Although it's rare that a carb-based food should influence catwalks, the pie-crust made it into ready-to-wear years ago - whether Virginia Woolf in her high-neck frills or Diana, Princess of Wales, in her Sloaney blouses. In the 60s, French muse Francoise Hardy used to wear hers with a high-waisted mini skirt...

10 Unexpected Designers Who Do Denim Really, Really Well

best-denim-designers-feature

Designer denim can be tricky. High-end labels such as, say, Chanel or Céline can’t stray too far from their core aesthetic—or their core price points—often creating jeans that end up costing consumers hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars. Still, a new generation of young designers are using denim in ways we’d never thought possible, possibly justifying the splurge. Here, 10 to know right now.

ImaxTree

By now, you’ve undoubtedly seen It-girls, street-style stars, and models-off-duty rocking the cult-worthy, of-the-moment Parisian label Vetements, which makes a very specific pair of jeans that are everywhere right now. They appear to be classic at first, but at second glance, you can see misplaced seams, Trompe-l’œil fading, and raw edges. The denim minis, too, have been seen on style...
