The Best Of What’s New For Fall

landscape-1472586831-hbz-best-of-whats-news-3
Let's start with the ruffles. You can't move for ruffles. And velvet. Sometimes you find yourself dreaming about them. You wake up at the point of suffocation by ruffled velvet. It's a hauntingly romantic kind of season. Sometimes the romance turns dark. Those teeny, tiny sprig prints (it's also a print season) grow predatory. You feel like Gretel—a Gretel who hankers after one of those gorgeous floaty (yup, the season is floaty as well) or lacy (that too, lots and lots of it) ruffled dresses you saw at Alexander McQueen. The ones seeped in fantasy motifs; the ones Sarah Burton said she purposely wanted to be redolent of nightmares as much as she wanted them to be sweet, because one...

Did you think that moment had passed? That it was over? Dead and done with?
Hahahahaha.
True story: Last week, YouTuber Kayley Melissa came up with a new way to 100 layers a thing onto herself. Since Kayley specializes in hair tutorials, she decided to put on 100 layers of hair extensions, and the results are so mind-boggling that the video has gone viral.

First off, let's take a look at Kayley without her 100 layers of hair extensions on.

Would you believe these waves are heatless? 💁😄💗

So, Boob Masks Are A Thing And You’re Going To Want One

17
When I have a big night out ahead of me, whether it’s for a fancy date or an important business function one of the biggest beauty tools I break out is the face mask. They’re hydrating and help make my skin glow, hide the wrinkles (not that there is *anything* wrong with them!) and basically makes it look best it can, setting the best base for my makeup. Well, there’s a new type of mask that promises the same results, only instead of the hydration and yummy scents helping your face, these are for your boobs. Just like no two face masks are made the same, that sentiment is true for boob masks as well. According to Racked, the masks for your...

landscape-1472648041-hbz-topshop-runway

Following in the footsteps of Burberry and Tommy Hilfiger, Topshop has announced plans to make its new collections available directly after the show has taken place. Entitled the "runway-to-retail" format, consumers will be able to buy a carefully selected edit of what has just been shown immediately online and in store.
"Bringing our customers closer to the London Fashion Week experience has always been a focus for us, but now, more than ever, in a rapidly changing global marketplace where consumers demand immediacy, we recognize the importance of disrupting the traditional model," Mary Homer, Topshop's managing director said following the announcement.

The Reason We Want to Wear Satin Shoes All Day, Every Day

071216-satin-new-lead2
These days, flash-in-the-pan trends feel like such a snore. What’s more interesting is how we can incorporate something we have long loved into our wardrobe in a new way. Enter Vetements and the genius of Demna Gvasalia. Hisspring 2017 collection shown during Couture Fashion Week in Paris was thought-provoking in many ways (exaggerated silhouettes, new takes on shirting, velour jumpsuits, and so on), but one of our favorites were the satin shoes—a limited edition capsule collection done in partnership with Manolo Blahnik that comprises five styles: ankle-tie pumps, kitten-heel slingbacks, ankle boots, thigh-highs, and these incredible waist-high boots. Much like velvet, satin is one of those fabrics that boasts an after-hours allure perfect for an evening of elegance. But Gvasalia broke all those rules when he brought dainty satin...

Don't try too hard Think fashion requires hard work and hours of preparation? Think again. Coral Lee Briggs, a client director at a London-based design agency, insists that a nonchalant approach is the cornerstone to her city's style. "The look is more undone," she said. "In order to achieve it, I would say it probably starts with caring less. Wear trainers with a silk dress, pair heels with dungarees — just don't look like it took ages...

An Urban Wine Crawl Through Portland

00-holding-urban-wineries-in-portland

Most of us, when we picture a winery, imagine a lush green vineyard stretching over acres, and an old, beaten-up barn where a farmer is unloading hauls of grapes into a crusher at sunset. It’s romantic, and definitely exists—and yet, some of the country’s most exciting winemaking is happening within city limits, in warehouses that have been outfitted with fermenting vats, barrels, and in many cases, public tasting rooms where it’s possible to observe wine being made as you taste through a flight.

Urban winemaking may seem a bit unconventional—but that lack of conformity is also the key to the movement’s success. “We’re freer in the city,” says Scott Frank, whose label, Bow & Arrow, produces a...
