Is Collegiate Fashion Dead?

love-story-ali-macgraw-1
"Love Story” isn’t just a tear-jerker of a film; for many of us it marks the first and last time we saw examples of truly inspiring classic collegiate fashion. In the 1970 movie, Ali MacGraw falls backwards to the ground and perfects her snow angel while wearing a black pea coat and striped maroon Harvard scarf as Ryan O’Neal eggs her on. A few scenes later, her character, Jennifer Cavalleri, strolls the campus of Radcliffe College wearing a tomato-red tartan skirt, ballet flats, and that same pea coat. Girls everywhere saw the film and assumed their college wardrobe had been decided for them because, honestly, how much better could it get? Once upon a time, privileged young women who strolled Vassar’s...

The One Thing Millennials Want More than Money is To Travel, Study Says

millennial-travel-study-feat2

You know that cliché about how the job you choose should be the thing you’d want to do if money wasn’t an object? (As if.) Well, new research shows that traveling is something millennials value more than cold, hard cash—meaning more of us should probably be looking for jobs that incorporate seeing the world. 21 percent of people ages 18 to 34 would accept a smaller salary if it meant they were able to travel for work, according to a poll of 1,080 people conducted by Topdeck Travel and YouGov.

Sincerely Jules

The logic might seem flawed, considering that money obviously enables you to travel, but the findings suggest that millennials don’t enjoy all the elements of personal travel. 26 percent of the people polled...

The Cool-Girl Haircut That’ll Be Everywhere in 2017: Bob With Bangs

best-haircut-2017-feat1
Ah, the bob haircut. Typically reserved for suburban moms and pop star Sia, the bob has been the less-chic older sister of the well-liked lob for years. Well, until now. I was introduced to the trend that’ll most certainly be the most popular haircut of 2017—the bob with bangs—by my best friend: Even though I warned her she might turn out looking like a second-rate Judy Funnie, she chopped off her chest-length hair in exchange for a shockingly cute just-below-the-ears bob. And then the look was seemingly everywhere—on all the bloggers, on all the street style stars, on literally every Zara model. My friend might not have ignited the trend, but I couldn’t un-see it once she got it—especially on Instagram. And, while the lob—the long...

This Season’s Most Fashionable Psycho Thrillers

359919
The horror movies of yesteryear are embedded in our collective consciousness: echoes of characters from the 1960s to the 00s reappear again and again, especially at this hallowed time of year. But it’s not just party-goers that these films influence: fashion designers regularly plunder film archives for inspiration and few genres are as visually stimulating and memorable as that of the psycho thriller. The 80s gave us an armory of aesthetically arresting flicks from The Shining to The Lost Boys while that same decade set the scene for movies like American Psycho to appear decades later. The late 60s and early 70s were immortalised in influential films like Don’t Look Now and Rosemary’s Baby, where the style of the time was...
