Standing Alone, Kim Jonghyun Is Unlike Any Other K-pop Idol

As the main vocalist for multi-million selling K-POP supergroup releases his debut solo album, Kim Jonghyun discusses SHINee, songwriting, standout tracks and staying power.

Sporting a fluffy shock of candy pink hair, 26-year-old Kim Jonghyun has spent a whirlwind month performing, meeting fans and appearing on various high profile TV shows, including a not-so-subtle jab at 'sasaeng' (obsessive) fans in a skit on the Korean version of SNL. Having stepped away from his day job as a main vocalist for multi-million selling K-Pop supergroup, SHINee, he's been promoting his first solo, full length album Good/She Is, which spotlights Jonghyun's distinctive vocal colour and dexterity with nods to 80s funk pop, tropical house, EDM and alternative R&B. Unarguably, it's already...

Adele Dropped A Teaser For Her New Music Video And We Are Here For It

Get ready to bow down, plebeians, because queen Adele just dropped a teaser for her “Send My Love (To Your New Lover)” music video. From the looks of her confident glare in the minimalistic trailer, this video is about to be intense. And as much as we want to think we’re ready, we’re not. Seriously, how can you prepare for something like this? OK, so if I’m being honest, not that much happens in the teaser video. Adele just stands in the middle of a black room wearing a floral gown and looks like the poised, elegant queen she is. Still, something about that slow zoom-in on her regal figure and potent gaze screams power and intensity. And since there’s no way...

Get out your flower crowns and crop tops: Coachella kicks off this weekend. Each year, the Indio, California, festival has added more headliners and performances to its lineup, and as a result, it’s become harder to pick and choose which shows to see during the three-day music bacchanal. Some of the buzziest shows are no-brainers (go ahead and add the LCD Soundsystem and Guns N’ Roses reunion shows to your list right now), but there are many other performances from both big bands and up-and-coming artists that are also worth your attention. Here, our curated breakdown of the best acts to see at this year’s Coachella.

Petra Collins Directs Carly Rae Jepsen’s New Video

The photographer shoots a glittery new clip for E•MO•TION track ‘Boy Problems’   Carly Rae Jepsen has shared a video for “Boy Problems”, taken from her third album E•MO•TION. The clip follows a teary-eyed Jepsen and her equally torn-up pals in their bedrooms, in the office, and at a funeral — things cheer up by the end though, with everyone linking up for a big dance party. The video was shot by photographer Petra Collins and premiered via Rookie Mag. Rookie’s Tavi Gevinson makes an appearance in the video, as well campaigners Dounia and Mina. “Out of the blue, Petra reached out to ask if she could make a video for her favorite track from the album: ‘Boy Problems’,” Jepsen told Rookie, “What she didn’t know is that I had been following her online,...

Raised by Mrs. Carter: Beyoncé’s New Musical Protégés

This article originally appears in the May 2016 issue of ELLE.
"The music industry is dominated by men," Beyoncé declares. "And these labels go out and try to make carbon copies of whoever is successful at that moment. I'm over that." Amen, your majesty! Her solution: to take matters into her own hands, unleashing a battalion of female talent via the brand-new record-label arm of her company, Parkwood Entertainment. Here, we present the first three acts, all chosen and raised up by Mrs. Carter herself: "I want to take all my resources and give these artists the support of the best, to nurture them and allow them to be who they really are."
