landscape-1442841603-schumer-index
"Thanks everyone who has helped me, and the girl who gave me sort of a smoky eye. I really love it."  GETTY Last night, Amy Schumer took home her first Emmy for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series for Inside Amy Schumer. In one of the season's most viral sketches, "Girl, You Don't Need Makeup," Schumer pokes fun at the glorification of natural, no-makeup beauty, a look that comes with its own set of impossible to meet beauty standards: "I didn't know that your lashes were so stubby and pale, just a little mascara and you'll look female." Schumer's acceptance speech was pretty perfect: She thanked her team of writers, her sister, and the woman who gave her "sort of a smoky eye." Here, we track down "the woman," makeup artist Andréa Tiller, to find out exactly...

5 Lip Rules I Learned From Kylie Jenner’s Lip Guy

landscape-1442857122-kylie-jenner-lips
Dr. Simon Ourian talks injections, fillers, and "micro droplets." GETTY Jessica Alba used to be the poster girl for perfect lips at the Beverly Hills practice of cosmetic dermatologist Simon Ourian, MD, but "this year it's Kylie Jenner," he says. "Everyone wants fuller lips, but they also want a natural result." While Ourian is responsible for creating Kylie's plump, pouty, often-imitated-never-duplicated mouth, when it comes to looking natural, one size does not fit all, and bigger—like Kylie big—isn't always better. Like good Botox, lip injections should work to balance the entire face, he explains, because "the science of attractiveness is to make everything proportional." Here, the rules of lip injections, according to Ourian. today on my app/website. Links are in my bio. King Kylie(@kyliejenner)님이...

When, And Why, Did Women Start Dyeing Their Gray Hair?AIR?

landscape-1442603136-20150918-index
Artificial hair color used to just be for starlets and chorus girls. GETTY I found my first gray hair when I was 24, and, studying it, I saw a silvery shimmer in it that frankly startled me. It was supposed to make me feel drab, old, and frightened, but in the right light it seemed witchy, even glamorous. Then the right light disappeared, and I plucked it out. This tactic no longer works. After years as a bottle blonde, I've gone back to my natural brunette only to find out that I won't be brunette for very long: If I were to pull out all the newly surfaced gray hairs I find each day, I'd have to start spending most of the workday in...

Your Diet Coke Is Giving You The Munchies

elle-nails-1
So much for trying to cut back on calories with that diet soda. According to a recent study, drinking diet soda can have the opposite effect. One professor at University of Illinois analyzed the drinking and eating habits of more than 22,000 American adults who kept track of everything they chewed and sipped during a 48-hour period. And what he found was pretty striking. Here's the skinny—or not-so-skinny, in this case: Diet soda drinkers tend to munch on foods that are packed with sugar, sodium, fat, and cholesterol as a way of compensating for their low-calorie, artificially-sweetened bubbly beverage. ALCOHOLIC DRINKS AND SUGAR-SWEETENED BEVERAGES ARE ASSOCIATED WITH HIGHER OVERALL DAILY INTAKES, BUT PEOPLE WHO DRINK DIET BEVERAGES CONSUME A GREATER PERCENTAGE OF NON-NUTRITIOUS FOOD. How Proenza Schouler Sleekified The Soft, Romantic Braid

landscape-1442522911-ps-hair-by-anthony-turner-2
Plus, how one model went from walking the grocery store aisle to stomping the Proenza Scouler runway. America and Cuba have reconciled over the past year, but last night's Proenza Schouler show truly brought the previously feuding nations into perfect harmony—this time, in braid form. "The guys went to Cuba and they're very interested in this very confident, very sexy, very passionate, very strong Cuban woman," said hairstylist Anthony Turner. "It's almost like New York meeting Cuba—[the braid] is how we bring the two elements together." The sleek plait "pinched" at the nape didn't exactly make Turner popular with models. "The girls hate me today," he laughed. After dividing strands down the middle, he misted all over with a combo of Bumble and...

What Your Cravings Are Secretly Saying About Your Health

landscape-1442430300-gettyimages-466114081
There's no surefire way to figure out exactly why you want to eat a particular food at a particular time. But some food cravings can hint at nutritional deficiencies or other health issues, according Joseph Colella, M.D., weight-loss expert and author of The Appetite Solution. So while food cravings aren't the best diagnostic tools on their own, listening to what you crave—and putting those cravings into context—can help you give your body what it really needs. So consider these triggers the next time you experience a common food craving: 1. Chocolate You're getting your period, you're pregnant, or you're having a shitty day.Because society vilifies chocolate as high in calories and fat, people tend to crave chocolate at times when they think it's socially acceptable to eat it, explains...

At Jeremy Scott, The Secret To Super Long Lashes

landscape-1442332167-beauty-jeremy-scott-02
No falsies needed. GETTY This season at Jeremy Scott, the club-kid's designer drew inspiration from—you guessed it—club kids; specifically the East Village variety; party girls from the 1980s who worship 1960s kitsch. Teased hair, neon lips, candy-colored nails, and most captivating of all, doll eyes with black cartoon lashes comprised the John Waters'-girl look.  To get the animated eye look, makeup pro Kabuki designed plastic stencils for each artist on his team. "There's no other way to do it," he said, filling in model Anna Cleveland's under-eye stencils with jet-black liquid liner. Indeed, stencils are nothing new when it comes to creating graphic nail art, but cutout guidelines are rarely used around the eyes backstage. Continuing the designer's everything-oversized aesthetic, hair stylist Eugene gave the...
