The Webster Brings Siz Stories Of Chic To NYC

Winter looms around the corner for New York, but founder of The Webster Laure Hériard Dubreuil is bringing a little Miami warmth to the Big Apple, opening a new location of the luxury boutique in a stunning SoHo location.

The shop has rebuilt an entire building at 29 Greene Street, creating six floors from scratch with 98 designer labels for men and women. Custom furnishings and décor—including wallpapers from the 1920s and ‘30s—help accentuate the charm of the site, which was constructed in 1878 until it burnt down years ago. The result is incredibly opulent—the intricate patterns and lush textures throughout the new store are accentuated by the moody lighting and bright open windows.

In a move mimicking the concept shops that dot the city, The Webster also features artwork and installations, including the work of furniture and industrial designer Gaetano Pesce, a piece by photographer Maxi Cohen on the third floor, and a sculpture from Dubreuil’s husband, Aaron Young, on the fourth, among others.

Of course, The Webster has a style all its own. The luxury boutique first opened its flagship location in Miami Beach in 2009, and has since opened locations in Costa Mesa, Bal Harbour, and Houston.

While New Yorkers usually pride themselves on their sense of fashion (after all, the city is the heart of American shoppers), shoppers should know that Dubreuil brings with her a global fashion pedigree. After studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan she went on to work for the merchandising team at Balenciaga under Nicolas Ghesquière, before joining Yves Saint Laurent in Paris. Since its inception she’s drawn collaborators such as The Ritz Paris, Calvin Klein, and Anthony Vaccarello, and she’s part of the expert committee for the annual LVMH prize. Suffice to say, in SoHo’s competitive retail scene, The Webster will likely win you over with its Southern charm.
