Highlights and slicked back locks are a thing of the past. This season, 90’s minimalism is back in full swing and better than ever, and really, who knew that the flat wave could be so cool? Texture makes a comeback, adding dimension to everyday styles, but don’t think of these as your average, run-of-the-mill beachy waves. Right now is all about sexiness—the kind you feel when you get your hair done and don’t want to wash it for the next four days because it begins to look even more effortlessly chic. And no one does it better then Kaia Gerber, fashion elites’ newest member to the supermodel club. Here are six, CR approved ways to recreate the new it-girls best style moments.
Not your everyday beachy waves, these lightweight, effortless locks start with volume on top. Divide hair into sections, and one at a time, wrap each around a 1.25 inch curling iron and hold for about seven seconds. Once you get them all, rake fingers through the hair to loosen curls and gently shake the style out while adding sea-salt spray for texture. Use a little styling cream for extra polish and to prevent frizz. Not too precise, this style is a bit messy in the best possible way.
THE GIRL NEXT DOOR
Use a straightener to add a smooth bend to hair, and finish with a misting of shine for the seasons most in-demand style.
THE MIDDLE WAVE
Super straight roots and ends lend a fresh look while the mid-length is given a cool curl. Air-dry for extra, undone texture, then apply a curl enhancer to your locks, avoiding the roots. Use a 1-inch curling iron to curl separate strands, wrapping them around the barrel (but not clamping) for a looser curl.
THE TIE BACK
Pull small sections of hair from each side of your head and cross them in the back. While holding hair in place, take a bobby pin and slide it in horizontally over the crossed section. Keep repeating this, and finish with the rest of the hair in a low, messy bun.
Consider pigtail braids the new laid-back cool. Towel-dry your hair, apply a leave-in conditioner, and using a tail comb, part hair down the center from crown to nape and secure one section with an elastic. Apply a de-frizzing serum or cream to tame fly-aways, and begin one side’s braid by taking a small portion of the front of your hair and dividing into three equal parts. Then, weave sections over each other all the way down the length of your tresses.
For straight, smooth locks, make sure to use heat protectant spray before styling. While hair is damp, lightly spritz before you use a flat iron. After, straighten one to two-inch sections of hair at a time with a ceramic-plated iron for this instantly polished look.
