Danish Models Are Having a Moment, Just In Time For Copenhagen Fashion Week

Fashion has always had a special affinity for Danish beauties, from the arresting sexiness of 1980s supermodels like Renee Simonsen and Helena Christensen to the cool-girl charms of modern superstars Freja Beha Erichsen and Caroline Brasch Nielsen. The latest generation to emerge from the Scandinavian country continues to bring personality and fresh-faced beauty to the scene—not to mention a few killer runway struts, of course. These seven stunning Danes making waves on the international market are the girls to know now.

Nina Marker

Discovered while heading to McDonald’s with friends back in 2014, Copenhagen native Nina Marker won the Denmark round of Elite Model Look that same year. She moved from opening shows during Copenhagen Fashion Week to walking a series of high-profile international shows last season, including Saint Laurent, Stella McCartney, and Chanel.

Mathilde Henning

How does a new model make her presence felt in the industry? Debuting with an i-D cover by David Sims ought to do it. Newcomer Mathilde Henning went from walking Copenhagen Fashion Week to working with high-profile photographers in less than a year. When it comes to models, after all, Sims knows how to pick ‘em: Luna Bijl, the last beauty to get his endorsement, went on to dominate the runways– and Henning could be his latest star in the making.

Rebekka Midjord Eriksen

Arriving on the international scene with a Burberry exclusive back in Fall 2016, Rebekka Midjord Eriksen turned heads with ethereal good looks. Since then, Eriksen has become a compelling presence on the runway for labels like Iris van Herpen, Maison Margiela, and Rodarte.

Sara Somogyi

Sara Somogyi’s career had an auspicious start—after she was discovered on the streets of Copenhagen, she was hired for the first time by Miu Miu, posing opposite pros like Dree Hemingway. A vintage fan with impressive personal style, Somogyi peppers her Instagram account with snapshots her latest finds from Gucci and Céline while starring in campaigns for powerhouses like H&M.

Marie Louise Wedel

Bombshell Marie Louise Wedel has the whole swimsuit selfie thing down pat, but with edgy work in independent publications like Interview, she proves she won’t be boxed into the babe category. Blessed with the kind of accessible beauty that attracts big brands, Wendel may be ready to show yet another side of her persona once fashion month rolls around.

Anna Damgaard

There’s no better way to enter fashion than with a Prada exclusive, and Anna Damgaard is the latest Miuccia-approved newbie. Debuting at the Cruise 2018 show back in May was an adventure, but Damgaard is used to a little excitement: She spends her off-duty moments enjoying hobbies like surfing, sailing, skiing, and even base jumping.

Asta Fjeldhagen

Great taste will take you places, and during the recent Paris couture shows, when she walked Schiaparelli, Asta Fjeldhagen left an impression on street style photographers by wearing an on-trend combination of a belly-baring black wrap top and vintage jeans that made its way onto countless blogs. As she makes a name for herself with work for Burberry, Rochas, and John Galliano, Fjeldhagen’s personal style only adds to her appeal.
