There’s something about the laid-back history of Venice Beach that lends itself to a never-ending denim-staple wardrobe. An endless summer–feeling night at Gjelina on Abbot Kinney was the perfect setting for Vogue to celebrate all things denim yesterday. The likes of Amber Valletta, Jaime King, and Sasha Lane joined the ideal mix of designers, artists, and creatives that makes up the coolest of the denim-clad Angelenos.
As guests gathered al fresco for a mid-spring toast, passed trays of mushroom toast, radishes, and prosciutto floated through the sea of blue jeans. “I can’t thank you all enough for being here and coming all the way to Venice,” toasted Vogue’s Sally Singer, who, along with Lisa Love, hosted the annual celebration of the denim, denim, denim, and all those who keep it alive. “This is our favorite dinner of the year!” Musicians Troye Sivan, Kacy Hill, and Rainey Qualley exchanged laughs over plates of braised lamb, crisped snapper, and sweet pea agnolotti, while across the room, artists Alex Israel, Elliott Hundley, and Petra Collins chatted with friends.
After a trio of desserts including rhubarb pie and chocolate pistachio tart were served (aptly by the Gjelina staff dressed head to toe in Citizens of Humanity denim looks) guests returned to the patio where actresses Alia Shawkat and Angela Sarafyan chatted with designers like Laura Mulleavy, Andrea Lieberman, and Greg Chait, who all came west (in jeans!) to show their support of the very fabric that bound the intimate crowd together.
As Ubers and chauffeured Cadillacs lined up on Abbot Kinney, guests trickled off into the night proving yet again that a good pair of jeans is all you need for a perfect night out in Los Angeles.
