I’ve always loved wearing updos. But now that I’m a beauty editor and a new mom, I hardly have the time (or frankly, the hands) to spend time styling my hair for more than a minute or two. But Khloé Kardashian’s half-up hairstyle, which celebrity hairstylist and ghd brand ambassador Justine Marjan, posted a photo of Koko wearing a half-up style laced with braids. Marjan, who created the look ten minutes, did so for an upcoming episode of—what else—Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
To know that something this beautiful can be so simple is a legitimate game-changer—no longer are the days I let my 6-month-old dictate the state of my hair. “Khloé was filming a short segment for the show so she wanted to do something fun and different,” Marjan tells Allure. “Keeping it half up makes it more casual, whereas pulling all of the hair into the pony can make it more dressy. We decided we wanted to keep the length short and style it half up with braids on the side.”
Marjan broke down exactly how she did the Kardashian sister’s hair for us. After quickly blowdrying with a ghd air hairdryer, Marjan parted hair one-inch sections of hair into three separate sections—one in the center, and the other two above each eyebrow. (These are the braids.) After braiding each section back from the crown and securing with a clear elastic, Marjan rubbed a bit of pomade through the braids to remove frizz and add a bit of shine. She then put the final touches on Khloé Kardashian’s half-up hairstyle by flat-ironing the rest of her hair with the
, then she applied serum through the ends.
If you’re creating the look at home, Marjan suggests using the arch and edges of your brows as a guideline for where the sections should start. The bottom line? You don’t need fancy products for glam updos. Just apply a little skill and patience and you’re good to go.
My lil kokez today! Missed her so much 🦄💎👼🏻🦋🙇🏼♀️ GET THE LOOK: 1️⃣ Prep damp hair with @Tresemme Keratin Smooth serum then blowdry with a smoothing brush and the @ghd_northamerica air blowdryer. 2️⃣ Create the partings for 3 braided sections, one on either side of the eyebrow, and one at the center parting. 3️⃣ Add Tresemme styling pomade to each sections, then create a braid to the crown of the head and clip away. 4️⃣ Once every section is braided, add pomade to the sections between the braids then comb into a half up hairstyle and secure with an elastic. 5️⃣ Flat iron the rest of the hair with a ghd platinum flat iron, then use more serum through the ends.
