Acid Attack Survivors Take To The Runway

image

On Tuesday evening, ActionAid put on a fashion show in East London that was so fantastic, the entire audience got up and started dancing down the runway with the models for the finale.
The models were eight phenomenally courageous acid attack survivors from Bangladesh. Having never traveled outside their home country before, they came to London to "break the culture of silence for all women and girls everywhere who live in fear of violence."

Meet Heroine, a New Fashion Site With a Democratic Point Of View

screen-shot-2017-10-10-at-3-48-44-pm-1507670311

Although fashion has always been political, Heroine, a new destination for womenswear enthusiasts, seems to embody all the democratic values that we are thirsting for in today’s world. Ahead of its launch at 10AM EST, we caught up with Kristen Dempsey, Heroine’s brand director, to give us the breakdown of what the site is all about and the first look at their site and editorial point of view.

Why all the hype? Heroine is Grailed’s sister site. In case you aren’t familiar, that’s the curated marketplace for lovers of high-end, secondhand menswear and ultra-hyped up streetwear. Since its launch in 2014, it has famously attracted...

A Look at Spring 2018’s Attention-Grabbing Runways

elmfi100117finouvelle-001-1507319214
Late one night, a friend trying to sell me on the benefits of mindfulness sends me a text—apparently, an acquaintance of hers recently lost 170 pounds and gained a promotion, a transformation he credits to repeating a mantra 10 times every morning in the mirror. I don’t believe her, but of course I want to know the mantra, and once she tells me, I can’t stop thinking about it: “Look at me.” It’s been a while since I commanded anyone to look at me. Once, getting dressed was something I did to stand out, and no print was too chaotic, no weird sartorial stone went unturned. There was a time, outside the Opening Ceremony show, when a street-style photographer took a...

Kendall and Kylie Dropped a Lingerie Line and Didn’t Tell Anyone

TOPSHOP

Surprise!

Ring the alarm, Kardashian/Jenner superfans, because Kendall and Kylie Jenner have pulled a fast one on all of you — the sisters just dropped a lingerie collection with Topshop under their namesake brand Kendall + Kylie. But here's the plot twist: They didn't tell anyone. This isn't even an ICYMI, because literally everyone missed it. The line simply appeared on Topshop's website, as if by magic. A subtle launch may not be so surprising given Kylie's recent (still unconfirmed) pregnancy rumors and the controversy surrounding the brand's last collection. There was virtually no promotion for the line on either of the sisters' social-media accounts, nor was there a formal announcement — just a promotional photo of Kendall posted to Topshop's Instagram page. The capsule is co-designed by Fleur du Mal...

Gucci Fall 2015 GETTY
Following the takeover of those ubiquitous fur-lined backless loafers, Gucci is officially going fur-free, starting with its Spring 2018 collection. The announcement was made by CEO Marco Bizarri today during the 2017 Kering Talk at The London College of Fashion. After working with The Humane Society of the U.S. and LAV (an Italian-based animal welfare group), Gucci's joining of the Fur Free Alliance ensures the brand will stop all use of animal fur including mink, coyote, raccoon dog, fox, rabbit, karakul, and all other species specially bred or caught for fur. “Being socially responsible is one of Gucci’s core values, and we will continue to strive to do better for...
