Raf’s Second Outing For Calvin Klein Mixed American Horror With American Beauty

Few countries encapsulate as many paradoxes as America. Raf Simons took this as the overriding theme for his second season as Chief Creative Officer of Calvin Klein. If the opening looks of this collection picked up last season's marching band meets cowboy uniforms, rendered in luxurious, heavy silks, it quickly turned into an exploration of America's contradictions and conflicts. Or "American dream, American horror," in Raf's words.

So quintessential Americana (Andy Warhol) rubbed up against fetishistic pieces in rubber and clashed with cheerleader pom-poms remade as accessories and dresses. Warhol's Dennis Hopper print featured throughout. An apt motif for the collection, Easy Rider is still a landmark of the 60s counterculture, and is similarly full of American dreams...

An Homage To Helmut Lang From The 1999-Themed Issue Of CR

crf090117sorrenti-11-1505155545

"I just try to do very honest, good clothes," Helmut Lang told the New York Times in 1994. For our 1999-themed issue, there was no greater design inspiration than the retired fashion designer Helmut Lang. Tonight, his fashion house's memory will be resurrected by Hood By Air's Shayne Oliver who will present his first collection in collaboration Helmut Lang, which was never quite the same after Lang's departure from his namesake label in 2005. Lang began his career as a designer in Austria where he was born. In 1977 he set up a made-to-measure studio there and by 1979, when he was only 23, he opened his first retail boutique. By 1986, he officially founded the house of Helmut Lang in Paris.

How to Make a Sundress Look Good in September

While everyone else breaks out their new fall purchases, Yasmine Sewell is here to remind us that summer is technically not over just yet. Instead of the menswear blazers we’ve been seeing every day, Farfetch’s new VP of style and creative opted for a breezy tiered pink gingham Loewe dress. She added arty red earrings and white slingbacks, both by Céline, proving that it’s still not too late to squeeze in a few more weekends on that unicorn pool-floatie. For her valiant efforts at keeping the easy, cheerful summer spirit alive, she’s our Golden Peacock of the day.

Tom Ford knows how to charm and beguile women with little details like naming shades of lipstick after men, which is what he did with his popular Lips & Boys collection. But Ford is an equal opportunist, and has announced he'll be adding 50 new shades to his Tom Ford Beauty line―this time around, they're all named after the fabulous women in his life.

08-sneakers-lede.w710.h473

Cheap and Cheerful is a weekly column that highlights the chicest inexpensive finds. Because nothing’s more satisfying than looking good while spending less.
In a Fashion Week fog of Balenciaga sock boots and quirky Céline sandals, designer Sara Battaglia’s street style was a breath of fresh air. She wore a gray-checked skirt-suit and carried a colorful bucket bag from her own fall collection, but what made the look was her $60 Converse sneakers.
Recall the feeling of getting a fresh pair of kicks for the first day of school: You wanted to wear them with everything, right? This is the Fashion Week version — and unlike those Balenciagas and Céline’s, you can get them all for under $120. Read on for eight options inspired by Battaglia’s look.

The Ones She...

Gucci Enlists Dapper Dan For Its New Campaign

Fret not, fashion folk: all is well between Gucci and Dapper Dan! The Italian brand has just tapped the Harlem fashion icon for its men’s tailoring campaign.
Dan (real name Daniel Day) made a name for himself in the 1980s for his made-to-order designs that often re-appropriated logos from famous fashion houses. One of his most iconic pieces—a jacket with oversized sleeves featuring the Louis Vuitton logo—was re-worked by Alessandro Michele for Gucci’s cruise 2018 collection with the interlocking Gucci logo. This set off a firestorm of debate in the fashion world as to whether or not Michele had copied Dan.

Bella Hadid Thinks The New Bulgari Perfume Is Great For Date Night

Getty

This month Bella Hadid scored her first fragrance campaign with Bulgari's new scent 'Goldea: The Roman Night'. We caught up with the in-demand model at the launch to talk dating, fashion week and TV binge watching.

What do you like about the new Bulgari fragrance? It's really light, and it smells amazing. I would never rep something that I don't 100% believe in, and I really do love it. It's very sexy, and it's great to wear it all year round. Wear it on a date, if you want to, just live your life. Would you wear it on a date? On the dates that I don't go on...

Meet The Makeup Brand That’s Redefining What It Means To Be “Medium”

landscape-1504897835-sahi-makeup
Fun fact: There are 7.4 billion people in the world, with equally as many skin tones and colors. But you wouldn't know it, based on the completely non-diverse selection of foundations and concealers in the makeup aisle, which serves up a whole bunch of beige and cream formulas, with a few tan-ish outliers. Because okay. Sure. Which is why our little hearts sang when we heard of a new player on the scene called Sahi, a ridiculously inclusive beauty brand that's fully devoted to "medium" skin tones—namely, those found in Latina, Arabic, Mediterranean, and Indian men and women, with the sole purpose of making people feel confident in their own skin. "If you have darker skin, you know that ethnic skin tones are...

Second Breakfast Is The Most Important Meal Of The Day

muesli-toast-with-labneh-hazelnuts-and-honey
Perhaps you've had the kind of morning in which you only snoozed the alarm once instead of four times, you made the bed, and wow, that dress you're wearing doesn't even have any stains. You ironed it too? Now you're just overachieving. At 7:45 a.m., you sit down to your healthy breakfast of oatmeal and blueberries, and then head into the office. You get there before 9, catch up on e-mails, and go to a couple meetings. Look at you go. The clock strikes 10:47 a.m. Your stomach lets out a growl that you are positive cubicle-neighbor Megan heard. How is it possible that you are already hungry for lunch? You ate breakfast! It was healthy and filling! Never feel guilty about that stomach growl....

The feminist icon sat front row at Prabal Gurung.

You can always count on star-studded front rows at New York Fashion Week but last night, the fashion set was in for a real surprise when Gloria Steinem graced the Prabal Gurung show with her presence. It was the feminist icon's first ever fashion show and the designer was so excited that he came out to personally greet her before the runway even began. Known to cast diverse models and use fashion to make political statements, Gurung was a fitting choice for Steinem's first NYFW experience. To celebrate the occasion, Steinem shared a picture holding up her invitation at the show. "There is a first time for everything, even at 83! First #nyfw show @prabalgurung, a...
