The cosmetics mogul gave what is easily the most candid and in-depth interview so far about her rapidly growing business.

Beauty industry execs, are you listening? Kylie Jenner isn't anywhere near done disrupting the cosmetics industry. The 19-year-old gave what is easily her most candid and in-depth interview so far to WWD about her rapidly exploding cosmetics empire, along with mother Kris Jenner (who is the chief financial officer of Kylie Cosmetics). The interview marked the first time that the specific monetary scale of the business has been disclosed publicly, with the Jenners reported a whopping $420 million in retail sales in just 18 months for the company, even providing supporting documentation to the publication. For scale, WWD compares that number to Tom Ford Beauty, which reportedly reached $500 million in revenue after a...

Danish Models Are Having a Moment, Just In Time For Copenhagen Fashion Week

07-rodarte-backstage-spring-18

Fashion has always had a special affinity for Danish beauties, from the arresting sexiness of 1980s supermodels like Renee Simonsen and Helena Christensen to the cool-girl charms of modern superstars Freja Beha Erichsen and Caroline Brasch Nielsen. The latest generation to emerge from the Scandinavian country continues to bring personality and fresh-faced beauty to the scene—not to mention a few killer runway struts, of course. These seven stunning Danes making waves on the international market are the girls to know now.

Is Christopher John Rogers Set To Be The Next Big Name In American Luxury Fashion?

cjr-3-th

With a trio of awards and a heavily padded résumé, the Savannah College of Art and Design graduate is already making a compelling case for himself.

When I first met Christopher John Rogers last April, it was over lunch at a mahogany-paneled tea room on the Savannah College of Art and Design's campus. Sipping iced tea (it was Georgia, of course), we touched upon all the normal topics of conversation one might have with a then-college senior, from how the Baton Rouge, La., native found himself at SCAD to what he had planned for after graduation. It was in the case of the latter that he struck me as being particularly interesting: As a 22-year-old, his aspirations were quite lofty, but even then,...

This Is The Hot European City All Your Cool Friends Are Talking About

image
This seems to be the summer of Portugal. A small country hugging the west coast of Europe, Portugal always fell well below France, Spain, and Italy of my European adventure list. But, in the past six months, I’ve heard its name many times over; so, when given the opportunity for a quick trip came my way, I was excited to experience this much-buzzed-about country for myself. I always prefer to travel to a spot that's a little off-the-beaten path, so I was excited to visit the city of Porto. What I discovered upon arrival was a port town full of natural beauty, strong and delicious wine, and kind people. It turned out that my favorite parts of Porto were accessible to those...

Why Does Architecture Have Influence On Fashion — And Can It Go The Other Way?

We explore the parallels between the two creative fields.

What do Tom Ford, Raf Simons, Pierre Balmain, Pierre Cardin and Gianni Versace all have in common? Before kickstarting a flourishing career in fashion, each of these individuals enrolled to study architecture or industrial design. Fernando Garcia, one-half of the creative director duo behind Monse and Oscar de la Renta, is among that list of designers. He graduated with an architecture degree from Notre Dame — though he vividly remembers secretly reading Harper's Bazaar or Vogue during lectures in college. (Sorry, Professor Economakis.) "There's a great sense of satisfaction for me when I'm able to see my designs come to life in a matter of a week or two," Garcia tells Fashionista when asked about making the switch to...

Beauty tutorials are big on YouTube — a search for "makeup tutorial" and "hair tutorial" yields more than five million videos. In this weekly series, we put a mix of popular and under-the-radar tutorials to the test and show you what's best. Tweezing, shaping, trimming and grooming your brows can be intimidating — especially for beginners who aren't used to going the DIY route. But it's actually a fairly simple process, if you have the right tools and know the steps to follow. That's where blogger Tina Yong's Youtube tutorial comes in. She breaks down the process of shaping and grooming her own brows — then also walks through the makeup routine she uses to fill in and highlight them — in simple, easy-to-follow steps. The process Yong...

Dakota Johnson, Hari Nef And Petra Collins Star In Gucci’s Dreamy New Fragrance Campaign

Bloom serves as Alessandro Michele's first women's scent for the label.

After much anticipation following a New York City launch event back in May, the campaign for Gucci Bloom, Alessandro Michele's first women's scent for the label, is finally here — and damn, does it deliver. The series of dreamy photos, which the Italian house rolled out on Instagram on Tuesday, depict Dakota Johnson, Hari Nef and Petra Collins (What. A. Trio.) standing serenely in a lush garden and wearing head-to-toe Gucci florals, of course. The campaign, photographed by Gucci favorite Glen Luchford in New York City, was inspired by "urbanity and how scent can be a way to travel somewhere that does not exist, that is purely imagined," according to a statement from Michele. "It's a surreal idea of wearing a garden." In...
