Why This Jewelry Designer Thinks Cultural Appropriation Is Misunderstood

image
There are two types of people in the world: Proprietors of the "arm party," the "ear party," and any other aptly named bodily fête who would feel naked without buying, collecting, and piling on jewelry; and those who, frankly, could care less. Minus a thin gold band I borrowed from my former roommate and never gave back, I fall in the latter category. And that's why I look up to/ am inspired by/ am fascinated with people like Arpana Rayamajhi, who doesn't just make — but wears — some of the most beautiful and intricate and colorful earrings and necklaces and more. Rayamajhi was born and raised in Nepal, something that continues to heavily influence her collections. After studying painting and sculpting...

Dr. Martens And Lazy Oaf Teamed Up To Deliver Your Fall Dream Shoes

Cuteness overload

Our favorite combat boots just got a super-cute makeover. Legendary shoe brand Dr. Martens has teamed up with quirky U.K.-based label Lazy Oaf for a sweet, tongue-in-cheek collaboration, and it’s all we plan to wear this fall. The three-piece capsule is as follows: First, the 1461 shoe, a chunky oxford of sorts, has been reimagined and Lazy Oaf-ified. While the back strap read the brand’s “Don’t Care” slogan, the rest of the shoe boasts polka dotted hearts (a total play on its latest fall releases) and velvet laces for an added touch of whimsy, retailing for $135. Next, the classic combat boot gets a sweet update in the Dr. Martens x Lazy Oaf Jungle boot. Built with a double platform, the...

4 Sparkly Eye & Brow Looks To Kick The Night Off Right

image (8)
My favorite part of July 4th weekend is the fireworks. Having the day off is cool and all, and I'll never pass up a good backyard barbecue. But, at the end of the day, I love watching my neighbors set off their illegal sparklers from the front porch, or hitting up a rooftop so I can see the Macy's light show from afar. The only problem: It's nearly impossible to outshine the grand pyrotechnics of a fireworks show — until now. Use this weekend as an excuse to get extra glittery with your eye glam — whether you're doing the whole lid, just a swipe of liner, or accentuating your brows. I mean, there are plenty of glitter lip tutorials to be seen...

5 Of The Best Contemporary Swimwear Brands

matteau-swim-0010-1502217316 (1)
We’re already halfway through summer and if you haven’t already suffered from a few severe bikini-induced meltdowns then you’re either lying or you came into summer very well prepared. For most of us, choosing the perfect swimsuit comes down to a few simple factors: tan-ability – yes, that super sexy cut-away bikini makes your waist look miniscule, but you might go home looking like a tiger if you lay out in the sun for too long. Then there’s the very sensible notion of support – underwired bikini tops are so early 00s (and not in a good way) so going au naturel is usually the best option, but depending on how active you plan to be on your holiday – a good...

Usually we end up scrambling to address the problem in the moment—by taking a quick walk or shoving chocolate into our mouths. But, we thought, what if we worked to stave it off at the start of our day instead? To help us in this endeavor, we asked Kelly LeVeque, nutritionist and author behind Be...

Nina’s Night Out

hbz-8-15-harper-lead-1502835993

At the Spotted Pig, the New York gastropub as celebrated for its famous patrons as for its char-grilled burger, the arrival of an actress best known for her work on the CW series The Vampire Diariesnormally wouldn’t cause much of a stir. But when Nina Dobrev makes her entrance on a lovely evening in June, heads do turn—and not just because she is channeling Jackie Kennedy in an oversize pink coat by L.K. Bennett and Dior sunglasses. Dobrev’s canine companion, Maverick, an adorable and impeccably well-behaved border collie–Australian shepherd mix, is garnering her own fair share of attention.

Flights To Greece Are So Insanely Cheap Right Now

landscape-1503001612-gettyimages-475124388
If you've ever dreamed of a) flying in one of Emirates super luxe airplanes or b) going to Greece, now's the time. Typically, a nonstop flight would set you back $1,000, but thanks to a special airfare sale, that price has dropped to less than $450. Of course, there a few caveats. Currently these fares are only available from Newark Airport to Athens, so if you live outside of the New York area you're out of luck. But if you are, you'll be able to fly to Athens for under $450 basically anytime between October 2017 and May 2018, including Thanksgiving but excluding Christmas and New Year's Eve. To find the cheapest fares, budget travel newsletter Scott's Cheap Flights recommends searching for your dates...

Cutlets Are The 2017 Dish Of The Year

fish-milanese-with-cucumber-ceviche
Almost every country has its cutlet. Call it a schnitzel, Milanese, tonkatsu, or chicken-fried steak—a cutlet by any other name would smell as tasty. And no wonder: Who doesn’t love a crispy, crunchy, fried piece of tenderized meat? But these days they’re turning up at restaurants outside of the checkered-tablecloth Italian joint or the dusty, old German spot. Chefs across the country are taking the classic preparations and amping them up. You still eat them with the same enthusiasm as when you devoured chicken tenders as a kid; there’s just a lot more going on. As we traveled America searching for the Best New Restaurants of 2017, various spins on the cutlet accounted for some of the best dishes we tried all year. Mean...
