Your Complete Guide To Fall Fashion 2017

landscape-1498675722-v4

You know how lots of fashion guides are like three pictures of vaguely similar things, united by titles that are puns? (NOT GUILTY.) This is not that—this is all the most pertinent information about the top trends for Fall 2017 with none about the stuff you'll never actually wear. Really.

The Texture: Homemade (or If You Were Crafty) Once again, your Nana (or her couch) is a style icon, though not in a cobwebby, old-school Olsen way. This time, it's all about patchwork, quilt squares, nubby knits with more cables than your actual gran's TV, and the pleasantly musty smell of Tradition...

When You Have To Begin Again, Clothing Can Help You Heal

image (8)
Patricia shares a room that’s just big enough for a twin-sized bunk bed; a small wardrobe; and a long, narrow vanity. She and her roommate need to be mercilessly tidy if they want to stay sane in the tiny space — beds are made as soon as the women get up, and clothes are folded as soon as they come off. They’ve developed ingenious ways to store their shoes (under the bed), jewelry (in cookie tins inside the drawers), and winter clothes (inside their suitcases). While her roommate isn't that into fashion, Patricia keeps her side of the small closet organized, with the care and eye of a clotheshorse. The only collection that feels like it might get a red...

G-Star Raw Wants You To Unlearn Denim As You Know It

landscape-1498652135-rr-looks13

G-Star Raw's Aitor Throup looks like a skater dude and talks like an anthropology professor. The executive creative director throws out phrases like "the great unlearning" and he smells like a cigarette binge. He's won prestigious fellowships and directed music videos for Kasabian. Oh, did we mention he made the District 13 uniforms for The Hunger Games?

SHOP: G-Star Raw fashion This steady streak of success might require some Type A discipline, but Throup is actually pretty funny—calling my interview questions "super personal, like third date questions!"—and walking us through his first-ever womenswear collection for G-Star Raw Research. "I'm obsessively interested in design principles like ergonomics, 3-D design frames, and holistic construction, and those ideas are as relevant for men as...

Their Favorite Lip Balms

landscape-1498675792-lipbalm

As the mercury rises, so does our lip balm addiction. Beat the heat and habitually chapped lips with SPF-packed formulas, a product that "smells like marshmallows," and a balm recommendation from VS Angel Sara Sampaio for "perfectly plump lips." Here, nine lip balms that ELLE editors depend on all summer long.

This Terminally Ill Teen Is Working With a Lingerie Brand To Support Sexual Abuse Survivors

1498660309-lonley
Earlier today New Zealand-based lingerie label Lonely released its latest Lonely Girls series portrait of Eva McGauley, a terminally ill teenager whose dying wish is to help sexual abuse victims with her charity Eva's Wish. The ongoing journal series, published on the brand's website, features un-retouched photos of inspiring women (Mercy Brewer, Lean Dunham, and Jemima Kirke to name a few) wearing Lonely lingerie. In 2015, McGauley was diagnosed with a rare case of nasopharyngeal cancer, which affects the head, neck, and nasopharynx. According to the American Cancer Society, fewer than one in 100,000 people are diagnosed each year and there is no known cause. Currently residing in Wellington, New Zealand, McGauley notes that several of her friends have been victims of sexual abuse. After witnessing the aftermath of their...

A Date Night Recipe For The Rent Week Struggle

rent-week-chickpeas-rice
Dates, man. They're tough. Even if you’re not picking up the entire tab or grabbing the check yourself, a split down the middle is still an unscheduled uppercut to the checking account. Especially on a Tuesday night, when you should just be sitting at home, eating leftover pasta, and telling yourself that you’ll definitely be at the gym tomorrow (Sure, you will. Sure). There’s a way to avoid weeknight date spending though. Make something yourself. But there are questions to answer. When was the last time you cleaned the kitchen floor? Will your cooking impress? Chairs? Do you even have those? Will there be awkward silences? No, there won’t, because I made this Dinner at My Place playlist (perfect for impromptu kitchen dancing and totally free...

They were created in partnership with crystal supplier Preciosa and debuted at its flagship store in Prague, Czech Republic earlier this week. The unique pair of stiletto boots feature pom poms and more than 100 Preciosa crystal chandelier trimmings. (Stripes are okay.) You will look chic, well-ventilated, and casual, but you will not think about anything more than whatcocktail you'll try next. And why is that? Easy—we've done all the work for you.

How To Get Laid Wearing Birkenstocks

landscape-1498600437-gettyimages-455609810

Mel Ottenberg is a Certified Big Deal™ in Fashion Land, having styled Bjork and Chloe Sevigny before becoming Rihanna's all-day-every-day outfit planner. So why is he now working with Birkenstock, the brand beloved by hot camp counselors who just dropped out of Oberlin?
"Not just Oberlin—I went to Rhode Island School of Design, and I wore them too!" he laughed. "Also, when I was a teenager, I interned for Marc Jacobs, and I would wear white Birkenstocks to the office. The city was so hot in summer; we all wore them with basically everything."

Fast forward to now, when "utility shoes"—Crocs at Christopher Kane, Tevas at Versace—have taken over runways, while Rihanna herself makes best-selling slides for Puma. But though...
