Victoria Beckham Awarded An Obe by Prince William

In an act of solidarity with those hoping to make the notoriously difficult transition from pop music to high fashion, Buckingham Palace has recognised and awarded the inimitable VB's positive impact upon the industry. Accepting the award earlier today from heir to the throne and one time FaceTimer of Lady Gaga, Prince William, Victoria said "It was an absolute pleasure to be at Buckingham Palace today. I'm proud to be British, honoured and humbled to receive my OBE from the Duke of Cambridge. If you dream big and work hard you can accomplish great things." Indeed, cracking the notoriously traditional and heirarchical British fashion industry is no mean feat. Introducing her first collection in 2008 at New York Fashion Week spring/summer 09,...

How Urban Outfitters Is Navigating a Rocky Retail Scene

image (5)
The Urban Outfitters concept shop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, known as Space Ninety8, was bustling on a recent Saturday afternoon. It was an unseasonably warm day, and small groups of young women, having finished their brunches at nearby faux diners and French-bistro style restaurants, moved in packs among the clothes that hinted at spring: light floral dresses, faded high-waisted jeans, and cropped wide-leg pants. It smelled vaguely herbaceous inside, like a dorm room of someone who really liked patchouli, and it hummed with the energy of youthful possibility — the exact mood the brand tries bottle and sell to its young fans in the form of graphic tees and clogs. “I didn’t even know this was an Urban,” said Alexis Ravello, a...

Céline Is a Women’s Brand, But That Doesn’t Stop Men From Wearing It

Like so many fans of fashion, the stylist Megan Bowman Gray has an unabashed love of the French label Céline. “I’ve always felt that Phoebe understands women,” she says, referring to the brand’s designer since 2009, Phoebe Philo. “The fact that she’s a working woman, that she’s a mom — she makes things that make you feel strong and powerful while you’re wearing them,” she says. “She’s on a level all to herself. I’ve been a collector of hers for the last six years. I think she can do no wrong.” Gray’s husband, the film producer Hunter Gray, shares in his wife’s enthusiasm, and has amassed his own haul of choice items from the label, including some outerwear pieces — a...

Here’s a First Look At The Staff Uniforms For Designer And Artist Susan Cianciolo’s Run Restaurant At The Whitney

In 2001, Susan Cianciolo set up Run Restaurant inside New York’s Alleged Galleries. It was a restaurant–meets–art installation hybrid named for her since-shuttered fashion label, Run, with a functioning kitchen, a full menu, a small indoor water garden, and a gift shop. Now, Cianciolo is revisiting Run Restaurantfor the 2017 Whitney Biennial, setting up her own artful atmosphere inside the museum’s Untitled restaurant on the ground floor. The first dinner in the series will take place this evening and run until Thursday. Tickets are $125 for a five-course chef Michael Anthony–prepared meal, which will be served by a waitstaff dressed in custom uniforms designed by Cianciolo. “The uniforms are in line with my history of handcrafted patchwork,” explains Cianciolo. “They are...

Turning Pollution Into High Fashion. H&M Makes Recyclable Waste Look So Good!

Sustainability is the key to creating the H&M Conscious Exclusive collection this year. Focusing on using BIONIC® – a polyester, a sustainable material made totally of plastics that have been recycled from shoreline waste, the Swedish brand visioned a band of ecologically made clothing and accessories that’ll trigger the human senses. “For this year’s Conscious Exclusive collection at H&M, we thought not only about the look of the pieces, but also how they feel and sound. It’s a collection to please all our senses, and also our desire to be sustainable in everything we do,” says H&M’s Head of Design and Creative Director, Pernilla Wohlfahrt. They managed to capture the freshness of spring in one-star piece called the Serpentine dress. It is this...

How I Recovered From a Weekend At Coachella

It's all fun and games 'til you cough up glitter.
Such is the lesson I learned post-Coachella, and wow, it was painful—an aria of heaving hacks and sequin spitballs that I'll call "Disco Consumption." (Close second but no-go: "Tinsel Tuberculosis.")

Once the coughing fit stopped, I could inventory the morning-after mess: a mascara mudslide on my cheeks, flaked skin on my nose, and a tan line in the shape of a heart on my wrist. My hair was a matted snarl of dirt, sweat, and broken dreams. #Iwokeuplikethis, but honestly? I'm not sorry. Sure, the "glitter tears" I tried to copy from Elle Fanning were somehow inhaled like weed. But screaming for the XX, Lorde, and New Order was...

The 4 Rules for Minimalist Dressing

So you want one of those wardrobes that allows you to close your eyes, pick three items, and, without any pre-coordination, have a perfect outfit. It fits like a glove, is comfortable, and allows you to drop your kids off at school, run a big business meeting, and attend a cocktail party. This, my friends, is the glory of minimalist dressing. Fashion editors and industry elite favor brands like Rosetta Getty for creating unique takes on minimalist dressing. No longer can you only have black blazers and trousers to have this ideal wardrobe. Investing in strong pieces to make a uniform that's all your own is enough to do the job. We caught up with Rosetta Getty, the epitome of minimal chic,...
