Watch This Vlogger Create a Cute Festival Look for Natural Hair

naptural85-festival-hair-look (1)
Festival season is upon us, and while Coachella-inspired looks have been dominating social media, black hairstyles for festivals are few and far between. And while I’d love to just leave my 4c curls to blow free and wild in the wind, I cringe thinking about the breakage and the tangle nightmare I’d had to deal with afterwards. So what’s a girl to do? Beauty vlogger Naptural85 (aka Whitney) has the solution, with an easy protective style for all the baddies out there. It's the perfect combination of a funky festival look, combined with all the benefits that come with protective styling. Your hair stays moisturized and healthy, while you’re free to be your most expressive self – what's not to love? To execute...

9 Ways To Toughen Up Spring Florals With a Little City Grit

00-lede-florals
What does a tomboy do once spring hits? The type who clings to Dickies and Dr. Martens when everyone else is fiending for floral dresses. The truth is that even the most delicate many-petaled motifs can be made to fit a cooler urban wardrobe. For starters, you can swap out those pastel mules and toughen up your pretty frock with a heavy-soled military boot. A patchwork floral-print skirt is a surprisingly good match for some classic-rock merch—we’re thinking a Slayer tee would fit the bill here—especially when there are rose-dotted workman boots thrown into the mix. And adding a corset to a ’70s-inspired micro-print dress, or a neon green bag to a soft pink Victorian-style top, is a styling trick...

With Shanghai Fashion week coming to an end these three designers have proven themselves ones to watch.  Looking back at the buzz surrounding past seasons, there are three designers in particular that are likely to find themselves in the global spotlight.  Known for pushing boundaries and enhancing China’s relevance in the industry, each of them further increases the nation’s currency by drawing inspiration from youth culture, the digital age, and modern notions of beauty.

La Double J

La Double J
Say hello to my latest crush, La Double J. The Italian label is the brainchild of American journalist and vintage enthusiast J.J. Martin. Relocating to Milan from New York uncovered an expansive world of true vintage, unseen and unknown by most, and so the idea of making new clothes, inspired by vintage fabrics, was born. J.J. collaborated with Mantero, a 150-year-old textile manufacturer in Lake Como that worked with Pucci, Dior and Chanel, to create a collection of 1970s inspired dresses, skirts and blouses from reissued archival fabrics. The prints are explosive and energetic but its the silhouettes that are most whimsical and alluring. My favorites are the full, floor length skirts, the ruffled cap sleeve mini dresses and of course, the off the shoulder...

There’s Already A Handmaid’s Tale Fashion Line In The Works

image
Well, designer collabs have officially moved far past Target collaborations these days. Designers are partnering with television shows, movies, and more to get their names out there (and probably nab some extra cash to work with, too). If you survived the Beauty and The Beast and Star Wars crazes — which collectively brought about dozens of designer and fast-fashion capsule collections — then the next collaboration might actually be of interest, and it comes to you via one of spring's most hotly-anticipated shows. New York-based fashion label and design collective Vaquera is teaming up with Hulu on a collection inspired by The Handsmaid's Tale, which premiered today. For the partnership, Hulu asked Vaquera to create a collection inspired by the show’s...

12 New York Pools To Lounge By This Summer

hbz-pools-index3-1493230937
As temperatures begin to rise in the concrete jungle, New Yorkers scramble to get their bikini bodies in check and their summer plans underway. That’s right–New Yorkers who stay Manhattan bound during the summer months rather than escaping to the Hamptons, The Cape, Newport or Upstate have summer plans too, and some of them involve access to many sun-filled pools (read: oases) offering bar service, private cabanas and poolside dining. Battling the long, arduous weekend traffic to and from the city may seem silly when you can opt for a little staycation in the Big Apple and take a dive or dip into some of the amazing rooftop pools that the city has to offer. Gather your girls, edit your...

How To Avoid A White Denim Disaster

SS17-StyleM-1333
When I think of white jeans, images of Elizabeth Hurley and Heidi Pratt immediately spring to mind. The former in her too-tight boot cuts and cashmere sweaters, the latter in her drag queen shoes, white skinnies and cleavage-revealing tops. White jeans can be a sartorial saviour, especially in Ireland when early May feels more like October. Right now, the days are long and bright, so black jeans and those indigo denims you’ve been wearing all winter begin to feel a little stale, but the breeze will cut through you so the sturdiness of denim is still preferable to high summer’s lightweight linens. White denim, therefore, seems like the easy answer. But there are pitfalls. Anything white shouldn’t be too tight. The cut you...

The Best Hair In Belgium Belongs To a 6-Year-Old Rapunzel

01-best-hair-belgian
It’s no secret that beauty’s biggest street style trends belong to the smallest stars: North West and her topknots, Blue Ivy and her braids, and Suri Cruise and her shoulder-grazing hair. And now, another genetically blessed child is stepping into the arena. Meet 6-year-old Belgian Lou Mungiele, whose hair comes straight out of a fairy tale. She and her curls made waves on the anonymous 23-year-old stylist @YouthSmhr’s Instagram a few weeks ago with a Yeezy-inspired athleisure look, accessorized with none other than her teddy, that garnered nearly 2,500 likes. According to Lou’s mother, Gisele Mungiele, who is half Congolese and half Belgian, her daughter’s hair reaches 20.5 inches long. (To give you a sense of just how long that is, the...
