Alice + Olivia x Basquiat Is Our Dream Come True

If you had to point to one person who embodied New York in the ’80s, you could do worse than choose Jean-Michel Basquiat. Whether he was running around tagging the streets with SAMO©, making a cameo in Blondie’s “Rapture” music video, or collaborating with Andy Warhol, he did it all with an authentic, magnetic energy very much his own. While his life was tragically cut short at the age of 27, his vivacity has lived on in his work, in photographs and videos of him, and, now, in a new collection by Alice + Olivia. The range, made in partnership with the CFDA, pays homage to the artist by drawing elements from pieces like Beat Bop, Replicas, Ascent, In Italian, A Panel...

Why Fashion Is Throwing It Back to the ’70s With Geek Chic Glasses

If the eyes are the windows to the soul, then—for the many of us with imperfect vision—glasses are windows to our style. In terms of fashion, there’s no time like now to embrace the four-eyes look—and right now, the geekier the frames, the chicer. "It" girls from Kendall Jenner to Chiara Ferragni have taken up with vintage-inspired wire rim specs that enhance their overall style…and sight. “I think with this social media generation, there is so much content being shared all the time that people want and need a variety of looks,” says Los Angeles-based eyewear designer Garrett Leight, whose Los Angeles-based glasses brand has been endorsed by Jenner, Emily Ratajkowski, and more. “Eyewear is just a fun accessory in general...

Five of Indie Auteur Jim Jarmusch’s Most Unmissable Movies

Jim Jarmusch fans rejoice! Today heralds the arrival of Paterson, the brilliant new film from the visionary indie auteur, to UK screens. Over the course of his four-decade-spanning career, Jarmusch has carved out a cinematic niche all of his own: one defined by minimalist narrative devices, deadpan humour, flawless soundtracks, iconic loner protagonists and existential musing. “The key, I think, to Jim, is that he went grey when he was 15,” Tom Waits, musician and star of Jarmusch’s 1986 film Down By Law, once noted. “As a result, he always felt like an immigrant in the teenage world. He’s been an immigrant – a benign, fascinated foreigner – ever since. And all his films are about that.” Here, in celebration...

The Minimalist Baker

Friends, it’s almost Thanksgiving! (Aahhh!!)

Have you made your menu yet? Do you have big plans? Are you doing something traditional (like eating Aunt Betty’s stuffing and playing cards with your grandpa), or something unconventional (like packing PB&Js and heading to the beach)?

Tell me everything. I want to know!

The Minimalist Baker
The Minimalist Baker
When considering what to share for Thanksgiving this year as an “entrée,” I struggled. So I went with my instincts and tried to think of something I would actually be excited to make and enjoy on the big day. I have yet to try a vegan “loaf” or roast I actually enjoyed, and I’m not much a fan of fake meats and the like. So instead of overcomplicating things, I came up with a whole foods-focused dish...

How Bloggers Make Cheap Clothes Look Expensive

The main difference between you and a blogger is that they *really* know all the sleights of hand and optical illusions that make clothes look good—that is what we pay them for. Kind of sketch, but do you want to get ahead or not? When you start with pieces—here, a coat by Kenzo x H&M—that have been touched by a designer via a collaboration or, uh, creative osmosis, you make less work for yourself because these shapes are already imprinted in...
