This 70-Something-Year-Old Is the World’s Coolest Comme des Garçons Fan

Photo: Courtesy of Suzanne Golden / @suzannagolden
The world’s biggest Comme des Garçons addict is not a teenage Rei Kawakubodie-hard in Tokyo. Instead, the fever fandom for the label comes in the form of sprite 70-something-year-old New Yorker Suzanne Golden. A beadwork artist specializing in sculptural jewelry, Golden has written a book on the craft and her work is held in the permanent collection of Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts. But she spends her downtime in another artful fashion, uploading outré looks to her Instagram @beadygurl. Her account’s dedicated following of more than 3,000 users dot the comment section with emoji-laden praise for her self-timed, tripod-photographed outfits. The ensembles, which are mostly Comme des Garçons but include pieces by Junya Watanabe, Undercover, and Walter Van Beirendonck, accompany her on...

4 Kinds Of Cozy Pants You Can Actually Wear In Public This Winter

mtqzmje3nzcynjq0ntqymze3
The true key to style is being comfortable — metaphorically — in your clothes. The suit doesn't make the (wo)man, the (wo)man makes the suit, you follow? It's about confidence. I don't know how comfortable latex is, but Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner look damn good in it. On the other hand, I doknow how comfortable athleisure is, as do Kith fans like Rihanna, the Hadids and Hailey Baldwin. Today, however, we are going to talk about being comfortable in your clothes in the literal sense. With the rise of activewear, an increase in genderless lines, the hoodie being the ultimate "It" item and the mainstream-ification of streetwear, we have found ourselves smack dab in what could potentially be your coziest, flyest winter ever. Do...

The Easy Fried Egg Brunch That Feeds a Crowd

cwar-weekend-brunch-fried-egg-salad-overhead
Welcome to Cooking Without Recipes, in which we teach you how to make a dish we love, but don’t worry too much about the nitty-gritty details of the recipe, so you can create your own spin. Every day this week, we'll be bringing you a staffer's favorite weekend brunch recipe—the one they bust out to impress company without too much stress. Today, senior associate food editor Claire Saffitz shares her easy fried egg salad. My brunch entertaining philosophy is a lot simpler than it used to be. Rather than wake up at 6 a.m. to take sticky bun dough out of the fridge so that it has time to rise (the kind of thing I used to do), I now resist...

5 Of The Best Red Dresses For The Festive Period

0106351600_2_1_2
I’m a traditionalist when it comes to Christmas. Red and gold decorations adorn my tree and my dinner table, and to a lesser, but still significant extent, my wardrobe. I have a gold sparkly cardigan bought in Zara several years ago that always feels like the perfect throw-on at this time of year, while a platinum metallic jacket from Topshop elevates my basics and makes all my daywear look that little bit more pulled together. This Christmas, I’m going all out with a red dress. The trick to looking chic rather than like a cliche is to avoid pairing it with either black or white. Instead wear it with camel or burgundy. Lace can sometimes feel a bit twee, but what makes this dress interesting is the cut-out...

Back in July, Alexa Chung shared some intel that many fashion girls have been waiting to hear for years. Following sell-out collaborations with AG and British chain Marks & Spencer, she's officially launching her own label, dubbed Alexachung. The first collection is slated to hit stores in May 2017, and Chung is apparently staffing up. Earlier this week, Business of Fashion posted a job listing for a key sales role at Chung's namesake label. The star's eponymous brand is seeking a "reliable and enthusiastic individual" to become a commercial executive, and the gig is based in London, according to the listing. The role sounds pretty varied, and it'll include overseeing the label's showrooms during London,...

Life Goals & Loafers: A Love Story

image-6
For some reason, when I first moved to New York City after college, I made a peculiar promise to myself: That when I finally became a published writer, I would use my first official paycheck as an author to buy something I then deemed the ultimate symbol of adulting — a pair of Gucci loafers. Almost 20 years later, I find a few things about this dream I longed so desperately to fulfill veryamusing. One: This was the ‘90s, when my friends and I were almost exclusively wearing combat boots, leather chokers, vintage biker jackets, and penciled brows tweezed so aggressively it hurt to actually look at them (and no, they didn’t completely grow back). At this time in my life, the...

The Art Of Wearing Your PJs In Public

pyjamas
Pyjama drama? Bring. It. On… What do you wear to bed? Sorry to be so abrupt – but it seems that the general consensus is either tracksuit bottoms and ex-boyfriend’s old t-shirt (classic/comfy/he’s never asked for it back). Or an XXL nightshirt you’ve had since you were 15. And let's not forget the summer standard – nada. Then there is the smaller group of sleeping fashionistas…let’s call them the Olivia Pope’s of this world. Power dressing working its way seamlessly into their sleepwear drawers. An array of elegant jammies. We envy you. The truth is though - apart from the 25th December - chances are matchy-matchy PJs are put aside for most of the year. And definitely not to be donned on...
