The Dolce & Gabbana Fashion Show Is Giving Us Major Disney Princess Vibes

14
Dolce & Gabbana opted for a fantasy setting for their fashion show in Milan earlier today, and the results are a Disney princess dreamscape. The brand showed off their autumn/winter collection on a set complete with chandeliers and a carriage that very a pumpkin with a spell cast upon it. The sparkly setting was even complete with a mirror in the audience atrium reading, "Who is the fairest of them all?". (Obviously the answer is: anyone wearing one of these gorgeous dresses.) There was also a punk vibe to some of the outfits on display, like military boots or ragged lettering which read, "dreaming of my prince." "It’s the princess of today, the new generation," Stefano Gabbana told The Guardian backstage. "Every...

As if Scott didn't drive the theme home enough, there were also earrings shaped like cigarettes.

Tough biker chicks in quilted caps and chunky chain-embellished boots walked out to — naturally — an AC/DC soundtrack. (Just in case you didn't get the "rebel" message, some of them said WARRIOR...

Put a Bow on It

No outfit at LFW was complete without a necktie. Seen everywhere from Roksanda toTopshop, a black or white bow tied tightly at the neck added a prim touch to blouses, suits, and even coats. Things got more bohemian at Temperley, where long scarves and pussy bow blouses...

Miuccia Prada Takes Back the Corset

holding-prada-threesies-
Photo: Prada Fall 2016; Horst P. Horst’s Mainbocher Corset, taken for Vogue in 1939.   Something about Miuccia Prada’s collections brings out the fashion scholar in all of us. Sphinxlike in her pronouncements, the designer prefers to let the clothes speak for themselves—and what a wealth of material she provided for deconstruction for Fall 2016 on her accessory-laden models. Many of them wore loosely laced corsets cinched with looped belts from which hung more small treasures—that recalled antique chatelaines. Scarlett O’Hara would have smirked at such plain utilitarian stays: Prada showed practical white versions, as well as denim and knit iterations. Not only that, but she brought them out from under. Clearly support, rather than seduction, was her point. Keeping things together is,...

A Rainbow Rave at London Fashion Week

We're recapping our five favorite moments from each day of London Fashion Week. Below: The best, weirdest, and craziest things we saw on Day Three.

1. Erdem took us to Manderley again, with a sweeping show set to lines from the Hitchcock classicRebecca. His sweeping, high-necked gowns evoked the era perfectly, and the setting — an atticlike space at the Selfridge Hotel filled with antiques and taxidermy — felt appropriately haunted.

2. In their first collaboration together, Christopher Kane and milliner extraordinaire Stephen Jones made the plastic rain bonnet (something we always associated with Queen Elizabeth II's off-duty look) newly street-style-ready. That might sound crazy, but in concert with his pastel furs and neon...

5 Things From Gucci Fall 2016 That Made Me Smile

The gowns, for starters.

Milan Fashion Week kicked off today with a predictably fun and bold show from Gucci. '70s-inspired and full of dizzying prints, fur trims, and loads of color, the show was titled Rhizomatic Scores, a reference to a philosophical concept developed by Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari. Here, five things about the show made me smile on this cold and dreary New York day.

This head-to-toe pink look
What about this look isn't smile-worthy? Surprisingly enough, it's the second pink fur coat we've seen during fashion month thus far. One more and it's officially a trend!

You’ll Be Wearing a Bra Over Your Shirt Before You Even Know What Hit You

Image Source: IMAXTREE / Alessandro Lucioni
Image Source: IMAXTREE / Alessandro Lucioni   "Hmph," I thought, casually feeling myself up as I sat at the Milly show, models strolling by in sweaters complete with bras on top. Sure, it was a trend I'd seen on bold street style pioneers like Taylor Tomasi Hill, but the Fall '16 variation felt fresh. Suddenly, I was more in tune with my breasts than before. I was perplexed — did I want to make a statement that highlighted my chest, drawing attention to what I usually keep covered up? Since I do have a relatively small chest, I was drawn to last season's braless look. But while those easy, breezy outfits inspired me to shed an article of clothing, this one asks me...
